  • Goodness getting HMRC to 0% defects could be a stretch.

  • Hi ATT, have you knocked HMRC into shape?

Hopefully you are finding time to enjoy the glorious autumn colours :)

Hope work is not too insane and you are in good health.

    Hi Tilly

Yes, HMRC all whipped into shape now ;)

In the end it proved to be far less painless than I'd anticipated; as I suspected they had made the tax owed calculation based on the fact it had been wrong since the start of the tax year rather than the fact it was only issued mid way through and never acutally even used as I pounced on it so quickly! Madness ay but we think worst case is that I will owe c.£60 by next April, they did offer to amend my code to account for the £60 but I said no, no more tinkering around with my tax codes!

Yes, unfortunately work is still insance but with some light at the end of the tunnel and it helps to know that soon things will be in place to effect that change as I must admit my body is giving me all the warning signs very loud and clear :o

Gorgeous weather today so I hope you've had time to get out and about with the dogs, this is just the sort of picture postcard day to be out with snuggy clothes on and watching the dogs enjoy all the leaping and bounding :D

    Regards

    Hi all

I've just been updating my signature and things are coming along nicely, however... I've just been running some numbers and at best I'm still only contributing 35% of my salary to the mortgage (including normal and overpayments). This is a good number to keep me focussed!

In other news (lol) I've now fully repaid the 5K loan that I borrowed from my parents to help me with the unexpected tax bill from last year. 5000 over 12 months is £417.00 per month which is a sizable old chunk. I'm now going to throw that at the remains of the stooze (not got the figures to hand but it's about £1800 now) and then I'll be all done and it can all start on go as overpayments. I'm already OPing the stooze by a minimum of £100 pm so this along with the £417 is a big pot to go towards the mortgage.

Having earned a small 'one-off type' award at work I now have £225 of vouchers. I've spread them around a number of shops to help with Christmas presents and I also did some for Mr S for food shops and petrol, and... I also got about £110 of M&S vouchers and treated myself to a few new clothes but also managed to tie it in with a sale and cashback from TCB so all in all i'm pretty pleased with that

Now for what I have been spending :D

To be fair I have had lots of NSD's in the last month and only driven about 20 miles so can't have spent much on petrol and from what the car display tells me I won't need any petrol for at least a month

I have however bought a little something for the house. I don't watch much TV and just have standard TV with a freeview box but just lately I've been fancying something that will allow me to record/pause/rewind programmes and catch-up on things. In the end I went for BT Vision. I'm not at home at the moment so don't have the costs to hand but as part of the deal i got £23.20 cashback from TCB, £25 cashback from Quidco and a £25 Mr S Gift card from BT so I'm pretty pleased with that and I think meant that if I offset these against the costs then I'm getting the services I want (including broadband) for about £8 per month.

I've also taxed the car this month, normally I just pay all car related items when they come in from that months salary, however in Jan this year I set up a separate account and pay into it every month. So, it was lovely just to transfer £120 from the car accont to pay for the tax. The MOT is due in two weeks and it's all booked in and the insurance is due in Dec. I haven't started shopping around yet as I'd like the renewal quote in first

  • Hi ATT, I bet clearing the family loan was a great feeling. That's certainly a significant number to help towards the stooze.

Also pleased to hear about BT vision, you work hard and you need to enjoy yourself as well as OPing

Gong dark and cold now so we are all snuggling up :T

Have a great week, Tilly x

Goodness, it seems my last post was 21/10/12

As usual work, work and even more work is the reason that I'm not round these parts much at the moment but things are going well and I'm really settling into my new role and making progress.

i've just updated my signature to start the year afresh so will note it here for future reference and to check progress

    Interest Only Part
    • Start balance £71,928
    • Closing balance £65,004
    • Reduction of £6,924
    • Total interest Paid during 2012 £447.12

    • Closing balance £140,618
    • Reduction of £10,759
    • Total interest Paid during 2012 £730.79
Not as good as I would have liked (or was capable of achieving) but not too shabby I think especially with unexpected £5k tax bill, credit card repayments, 3 holidays and sundry other 'not very MSE' items ;)

Will set some 2013 goals in the next post
