I made my first OP of the year a couple of days ago so it was really nice to get that monthly fix as the December one feels so long ago now. I made an OP of £529 and hope to add to that as the month unfolds.

I also seem to have a few lovely little milestones to report
    • just broke through the £50k mortgage reduction barrier. I know my sig says less but my sig only tracks from when I started Oping rather than mortgage start date
    • Overall balance now starts with £139k rather than the 140's so it's lovely to have slipped down in the next 'ten thousand' bracket
    • Interest only part has also moved from the £65k's to the £64ks
These little milestones are so satisfying aren't they :j

Got a couple of little money jobs sorted this morning so I now have £5k deposited in a BoS Vantage account getting 3% interest and I also opened up a 12 month monthly saver with them too. You can save a max of £250pm (which I am doing) at 3.25%

I know this is not everyone's idea of having a good time but last week did a load of money stuff for family member and had a high old time opening three monthly savers across three organisations and another three accounts opened for slightly higher interest rates :D

My stooze credit card balance is now £1086 and it's really peeving me, it's 0% interest in June and it's peeving me as I keep thinking I'll just pay it off now and then WEF Feb put that money as extra OP's but I know that doesn't make sense when it's 0% so will bear with it for a little longer :p

  • Thanks Tilly, you're right about home being the best place to be. I think even if I wasn't under the weather that is still good advice. Don't know what your place is like but we are up to about 8 inches of snow now and it's pretty much not stopped since about 8 this morning

Enjoy your lunch, I hope you are at home today too?

Yep, working from home and it's certainy a good day to be safe and sound here.

Yesterday was like that with us, snowed from early morning to late afternoon/early evening. I have to go not town for an appointment later today, so I've asked Mr T whether he would drive me :o. I had driving in poor conditions.

So agree with this lovely to open new accounts and get better rates (not so good at closing them I am) also I agree about helping family to open good accounts in particular older people with no access to Internet they really do miss out.

Just spotted my previous typo company cat now that would be lovely!!!

Hi there Kansaskitty, lovely of you to stop by and apologies it's taken me so long to reply; I've never been one for daily posts but at the moment I seem to be managing to get on here about once a month:eek:

I don't mind you posting at all, the more the merrier. Have you started your own diary?

Hi TG, got a couple more saving account to look at that are due to expire in the next mont or so. It's the researching which ones you want to swap to that takes so much time!

I had a five minute lurk last night but it was by phone so not ideal to post on. I caught a few of your job situation posts so it sounds like there is a lot happening but that you are making progress, have an offer you are comfortable. As I say, I only caught a few posts but I sensed you are almost 'at ease' with the redundancy and looking forward to the future. If that's the case then I'm really pleased for you as I know you haven't really been enjoying your job for a while.

I know its been a couple of years now since you became MF but how wonderful that you achieved that and it can help you make different work choices now

Well in the end I made a couple of extra small OP's which takes the Jan OP's to £618.91. I think that will be it now and next week is payday so I get to do it all over again :j

I've had a really excellent month money wise eg, OP of £618.91, £500 into savings, £140 on special birthday present for close family (not budgeted for), £236.35 to 0% CC. This is the sort of pattern i've been in for a few months now so I can see that some of the small things I changed are making a difference

The CC now has a balance of £1050 which needs paying off in June so plenty of time and I'm still resisting paying it all of now albeit did make extra £36.35 to it this month. I know I should just wait until June to pay it off and not make any monthly payments but this was a stooze that I wasn't controlled enough and ended up rolling over so I think making monthly payments for now is the way to go. It's also good to know that come July that's an extra £200 'spare'; not sure whether I will save it or OP it yet?

  • So.. my car has decided to develop a fault, it's flashing up a few error messages and as I said on Froggys thread one of them is ABS failure which sounds expensive! I'll be taking it to the garage to get checked but have had a quick rummage on some car forums with others reporting the same fault and they all look to have been charged £600-800 for the repairs.

Fingers crossed that you are right Froggy and that it will either be a reset or simple job

It's typical really as I think I'd mentioned about changing the car a few months ago as it felt like something was going wrong every two seconds and then it settled down so I put it to the back of my mind

    Regards
    ATT

Well after 6 weeks of this happening intermittantly I got the car into the garge. Repair bill of over £200 but could have been worse. The car has got to go! I've been putting it off for far too long so need to find the time to do some car shopping, both on-line and in person. The main problem is that there are very few cars I actually like (based on a flash car habit from years ago. I know longer have the flash car habit bit but I'm still really picky on what they look like :o)
