what can I do with Brisket?

The first time I cooked Brisket in the SC I used too much liquid & there wasn't much flavour left in the meat by the time it was cooked.
Last weekend I tried again & I only put about 1.5 inches of water in the bottom - it was beautiful & the liquid made fantastic gravy.0 -
I just cooked brisket yesterday!
I found a recipe on the net that was absolutely delicious.
Slice up an onion, and toss it into the slowcooker.
Rub some crushed garlic over the meat.
Mix 2 tablespoons of ketchup,
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (I used Balsamic)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Salt and pepper.
Put brisket into the slowcooker, and spoon the mix over it.
Then about half a cup of water with a stock cube to cover the bottom of the pot.
Mine was on for about 11 hours on low, and tasted incredible.0 -
Yes, early morning for mid-evening should be your guideline.0

if i use the recipe above, can i just chuck in a glass of red wine as well, or won't it be very nice?0 -
Red wine goes lovely with beef, so i would add the wine!!!!0

Hi guys,
I've got a bit of brisket in the SC right now, put it in about 10.30.
Recipe was from one of the threads here, can't find it so here it is:
Onion on bottom, chopped
Stock on bottom (half a cup)
Brisket rubbed with garlic
Make mixture of ketchup, red wine vinegar (I used balsamic), sugar, salt, pepper, spoon over brisket
It's been on high for an hour and now it's on low - eating at 5.30, should I put it back on high? The butcher recommended 5 hours on high in the SC but I'm not sure that would be too good? Or am I wrong?
Would it be nice to roast it for the last half hour or so?
Cheers0 -
No - low until 5.30 is fine. It'll fall apart - no need to roast.Touch my food ... Feel my fork!0

Excellent, thanks for the advice - I had a feeling the butcher was wrong!!0

I have found with my new slow cooker I have had to change all my timings. I think you really just need to experiment. It wont be undercooked at that but I have found with mine that its too crumbly if I leave it that long even on low.x x x0
