I just put in the brisket with about 2-3 tbsp of good soy sauce and a finely chopped onion. Turn it once during cooking. Tastes fantastic and the concentrated cooking juices provide a good gravy.0

I chop my brisket into 2 inch pieces and put into SC with about 2 inches of water, 2 star anise and a splash of dark soy sauce. Thicken with a little cornflour at the end. The gravy is wonderfully rich and is this is lovely served over steamed rice with steamed veggies. :drool:I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0

Can anyone help me?
Just been to Mr T's and picked up a piece of brisket from the reduced meat section (cant resist a bargain).
Trouble is, I have no idea how to cook it. I remember loving it as a kid, but both my parents have died and I have no-one to ask what I should do with it. Mr Spud has never even heard of Brisket.
All help would be very much appreciated.

Hi spud,
We have a recent thread on brisket, so I've added your thread into it as it makes it easier for Old Style readers to find all the ideas on one thread. As always the replies are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see them all.

Hi Spud. I always boil my brisket for an hour/hour and a half. Leave to cool, slice and remove all traces of fat, place in a casserole dish, cover with gravy and put in oven for half an hour (180 degrees - not sure how that translates to gas). The meat is always lovely and tender.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0

Thanks Pink.
Looks like my bargain piece of meat might cost me a slow cooker. Not much of a bargain anymore is it !!!

I've never owned a slow cooker. A large pan to boil the meat in works for me.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -

Before you rush out and buy a slow cooker, check out this thread...it can be cooked in the oven too.

Congratulations, that's quite a bargain for a la crueset dish, and I'm glad the brisket turned out nice. We just had our first try of brisket in the slow cooker, lovely!
