Been using Voipbuster and so far has been great. Are 0870 or 0845 numbers free or do you get charged for these?
Quick thanks for all the advice on MSE, as I am now using Skype for overseas and Voipbuster for UK landlines.

You ARE charged for 08XX numbers.

From http://www.voipbuster.com/en/rates.html it appears to be 4.3 cents per min for 0845 and 10.8 cents per min for 0870.

It's not their site, it is a 3rd party, x-ten is a separate company to Sipgate, and you can use other VoIP proivers with X-Ten's X-Lite.

Thanks for the info. I can't however make any calls to landlines after using the above settings. what am I doing wrong?

Sorry for the extremely late reply. To make a call after completing the settings you will need to dial #2 before your destination number.

Let's say that you are calling 08700050188, so, you will need to dial #200448700050188

    Get it.
    Have A Nice Day!!

I'd advise you to use either Voipbuster to make outgoing calls and SIPgate to recieve them. This is because it's free to ring most landlines using VoIPbuster whereas if you ring these numbers using SIpgate there is a penny/minute charge.

I want to do the above, I have signed up and got a sipgate account and number and I have downloaded VOIPBUSTER and X-LITE. I have bulldog broadband with Netgear wireless router. I want a proper telephone not headset and mike.
So do I buy some type of adaptor or a special telephone ?

Please help as I am confused???????

    Thanks

You can buy an ATA, this will connect to your router through one of the wired ports and allows you to connect your usual phone.

I'd go for the LinkSys PAP2 ATA, you can get these from https://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk or https://www.broadbandstuff.co.uk (Ensure you don't buy the one locked to Vonage).
