Any word on how to unlock the vonage one?

The current PAP2's locked to Vonage don't seem to be able to be unlocked, previous ones were, the board was altered on the later ones to prevent unlocking.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Well this may be attractive to everyone involved in VOIP:

    http://www.sipgate.co.uk/user/index.php

This site allows you to have a phone number for your pc. You can choose if its an area code number, 0845 or 0870 number...

All you need to do is sign up, and then download a program called X-Lite (for free with instructions on the sipgate site).

This then allows people to call that number at normal local rate charges and it will ring on your pc and using a headset or microphone and speakers, you can talk through your pc.

For free you can also set up voicemail and check it from wherever you are in the world as well.

Optionally you can upload credit and make calls world wide for a much cheaper charge.

Out of experience the quality is excellent. Very easy to understand people.

Isn't this going against the grain a bit for moneysavers. Surely most of us hate non geographical numbers.
By using this service we are giving in to the rip off merchants.
You may get a free number on your PC but those who call you on it will be paying the higher rate phone call for the pleasure of conversing with you.
The money that they pay over the top goes in the pockets of the provider.
I certainly wont call anyone on a nongeographic number if I can avoid it.
I wouldnt subscribe to such a service for fear of making myself unpopular.

Its fairer on my friends to let them call me on my landline. If they havent got 18866 or 1899 and it turns out to be a long cal I always offer to call them back

I HATE to defend Mercilesskiller but the post states 'area code number' i.e. local call. The 08X numbers are available if required.
Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.

You have the choice of 01, 02, 0845 or 0870 numbers with Sipgate, the 01 or 02 can be any area code you like, you don't need to live in that area.

Does a USB phone (mentioned a few posts ago) take over the Speakers once plugged in? Might get this Sipgate system for my lad. He has numerous usb ports on his PC.

A 'USB phone' is just a glorified speaker and microphone. Get him to use a headset instead, if he plays online games he may already have one.

But I thought a USB phone also allows you to start the application and dial the number.

Is there a suitable USB Phone for use with X-lite, every usb phone refers to Skype only? I would rather leave my laptop on power saving and use a USB phone then have to fork out for an voip router.
