there are other factors, but this seems to be true for me because i ovulate very early and have boys. i think i could have a dozen babies and they would all be boys.
i read an article about it a couple of years ago. the female diet thing is about whether the sperm has an acid or alkaline environment to swim through, or the thickness of mucus or something. sounds delightful :rotfl:
Exactly right I have read both of them theories thanks spendless for bringing it up i did once come accross the list of foods to eat to make you either acid or alkaline depending on which way you want it.:j:love: Getting married to the man of my dreams 5th November 2011:j

my 2 year old has just given up his pink pram and dollies to his female cousin (the only girl in a huge collection of boys, she's such a novelty lol!), he plays with his kitchen and shopping trolley every day and now he wants a dolls house. he's a rough and tumble boisterous boy and not in the least bit feminine - i think all children will choose all types of toys if left to their own devices. both sexes play with dolls and both sexes play with train sets.
OP i see what you mean - girly stuff. i shudder at the thought, but we're all different.
what about finding out at the 20 week scan? that way if it's a boy you can choose a name and imagine the baby boy, then you will 'get used to it' before he is born.
Carmina you hit the nail on the head that wasn't what I meant and I know some girls are tomboyish that wouldn't bother me and yes when we visit my friend (who has dd's) my boys will play dollies and tea parties and kitchens and all the rest of it however DS1 at the ripe old age of 5 is now saying 'thats girly stuff and I'm not playing':rotfl: :rotfl:
However I have seen him continue to play when he thinks no one is looking.
I have found out the sexes of all my children at 20 weeks I hate the suspense of not knowing and have named them through my pregnancies and always changed when they are born lol they never suited their pregnancy names DS1 was Jack changed to Joe and DS2 was Elliot changed to Josh. If I am honest I did hope that Josh was a girl and for a little bit I did feel disappointed when they said he was a boy but as you say I was used to it by the time he was born and it wasn't bitter disappointment it was more like 'oh a boy I really wanted a girl' and then it was over and I love him nonetheless because of his gender his birth was super scary and at the end of the drama I was glad we were both alive to tell the tale. I just think its because baby no 3 is the last one and therefore last chance for me to experience having a daughter.:j:love: Getting married to the man of my dreams 5th November 2011:j

poppyscorner - also wondered how old you are? mentioned on this thread that I think I've also read before is that the older a woman is the more likely she is to have a girl. Just thought about the 4 women I know who had babies in their 40's and each had a girl (first child for 1, other 3 had previously had a boy). I've no idea if there are any sats showing for the likeihood of a girl at a certain age, and you also have to take into account other things like decling fertility and risk of defects but you could have a google search to see if you could find anything of interest.0

i think the older you are the less likely you are to have a girl ... because the hormones when you're ovulating make you want sex but the rest of the time you just can't be bothered :rotfl:'bad mothers club' member 13

my auntie had 10 miscarriages before she ahad her daughter who is now 36 it turned out that she has some disorder which meant she couldnt carry boys and the 10 she had lost were all boys, she then had a few more (not sure how many) miscariages before she then went on to have another daughter had managed to carry a son full term (28) and thren went on to have another daughter (25). even tho she went thorough so much and was told she would never be able to have a son, my auntie & uncle never treated thier son any different to thier daughters, after so much heartache they were glad that they finally ended up with 3 healthy children, regardless of sexThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

Hi, first time on here and if anyone has already said all this i apologise.
There is some science behind how children are produced. The male sperm (Y) is smaller and therefore faster. It is also more easily destroyed and has a shorter lifespan than the female sperm (X). Taking all this into account, you are more likely to have a boy baby if you have sex close to ovulation as the Y sperm meets the egg first. However if you have sex prior to ovulation (about 3 days before), the y sperm will have died leaving only x sperm to fertilize the egg. Obviously this is not an exact science there are many factors which also play a part but not sure I wish to post them here! We looked at this in detail as part of my science degree and it was certainly one of the more interesting topics!
Good luck0 -
Im a veggie and have 3 boys so I think the old wives tale maybe just a tale lol - had two ectopic pregnancy's though one tubal and one ovarian and turned out the two lost were female so I tried no further to have 3 healthy children was enough for me - and my three sons are all grown up now and very happy and healthy0
