  • Morning all. It's day one of my OS revival. Was woken at 5.30am by DS. Fed him at 6.00 (minute amount - he decided after all the fuss he wasn't that bothered). He went back to sleep so I woke up OH. So far have managed to apply for his Child trust fund, put in a load of laundry, tidy up the living room and make the bed. He's now awake and having a whale of a time on his playgym so am going to meal plan and enjoy MSE so I can keep an eye on him. Last time I left him unsupervised on the playgym (a trip to the loo) he punched himself in the eye in excitement!

I'm going back on the flylady bandwagon next Monday, just got to get the house tidied first! Although I may give the bathroom a blitz if DS is feeling very sleepy later on.

    Morning :hello:

((((((((smoky)))))))) - you are doing incredibly well. Although you may think that carrying on and getting the finances sorted out is "just what has to be done" that's the product of a capable and resourceful attitude/personality. There must be a lot of people in your situation who are in really dire financial straits by the time they are widowed, because they have already buried their head in the sand by deciding to ignore that their finances no longer balance after their partner has to give up work through illness. The fact that you're not one of these people is a testament to the strength of YOUR character, and you should be very proud of yourself for the way you're working towards a secure future for you and the children. To quote another MSE-er's signature, "A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water" ;)

jet77 - how is the new job going? Which one did you go for in the end?

Penny-Pincher!! - sorry you've had bad news about your health again ((hugs)) - enjoy the rest of your break.

Essex-girl - have a nice day in London, just round the corner from my work. Borough Market is nice on a Thursday, as only about half the stalls are open (as opposed to Friday and Saturday which are absolute chaos, and the rest of the week when only the shops round the outside are open) and I don't think the news that any of it is open on a Thursday has got through to the tourists ;) so it makes for a very pleasant browsing experience :) The other time when it is really nice is first thing on a Saturday (about 9am) before the crowds arrive. I have promised my mum, who is staying with me tomorrow night, that we will go up there on Saturday morning for a coffee from the Monmouth Coffee Company :)

PenPen and the Penguins (50's pop group name alert :D) - enjoy R&J! Must be a day for Shakespeare, because although I'm going to the opera tonight, it's a Shakespearean one (Verdi's Falstaff, which is based on The Merry Wives of Windsor). I'm going all the way to Milton Keynes for it (glamorous eh :D) as it was not something I was planning to see until a couple of weeks ago when they announced that the OK principal baritone had dropped out and Bryn Terfel was taking over :j :j :j BT was already doing some performances elsewhere on the tour, but they were far from London and sold out months ago.

csarina - not sure if you'll be reading this but just wanted to say I really do still hope you'll come back - I miss your posts...

    Welcome to the newbies :hello:

Not much OS today due to my evening away from London, but lunch is HM macaroni cheese with peas, and will grab another HM meal out of the freezer when I get home at oooh about 1am... I suspect that I might have to spend some ACTUAL MONEY  to keep me going in the meantime :o

Just had tea and done dishes. Made out my list. DH walked DGS home. He has been make spitting noises lately  when he doesn't like what you say  so I told him everytime he did that noise, it made Ninny give him sloppy kisses :D and they were sooo sticky so you can't wipe them off. Don't think he'll be doing that again for a while. ;) I was in stitches laughing. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Haribo, hope you're feeling better soon.

I know, I know I said I wouldn't be here today, but my beautiful gorgeous husband (I'm having a lovey-dovey day) was asked to work a half day, so we won't be getting the van till 1pm. That means I have a few extra hours to pack, but the truth is I'm feeling like cr*p. Pain in my neck and back, and terrible heartburn from my pills...

But I'm in a great mood, we're going to Ikea today to buy our wardrobes!!! I know I probably shouldn't take such pleasure in spending, but I have saved! I love saving saving saving and then just spending it all in one go :o I've been doing it since I was a wee thing: my first ever purchase was a singing talking dancing doll. It was a monstrous thing, and ridiculously expensive, but I wanted it.

(((HUGS))) to Smokey, I can't imagine how hard it must be. A very close friend of my husband recently died in a car crash, leaving a partner who's my age and two little girls. He was only 28. You don't realise how hard it is to cope until it happens to someone close to you, so I am in complete awe of you Smokey, you are doing SO well.

Anyway. A warm welcome to Daisy. Don't be nervous, everyone is lovely in here. Excluding myself of course :D

My car passed its MOT! :j :j I was so worried after what DH said last night. They don't half know how to charge though, do they? Cor! £50.35. Where they get the 35p from, I don't know. However, it's all budgetted for as I've learnt my lesson from a few years ago going from hand to mouth.

I've got to parcel up the books to be posted for Readitswapit and then I'll walk into town to post them. I did have a potter around the market whilst Rory (my car :D) was in the garage, but as I left my house key on the keyring with the car keys :wall: then I couldn't sort it out then. Typical me, "trying to think" at that time of day!

The spag bol went down a storm last night with DH and the remainder has been portioned up for the freezer. I think that I'll get some more beef mince today and do chilli con carne for supper tonight. I wouldn't normally do two mince meals in a row, but as I go back to school next week then I don't know when I'll get more chances for big batch cooking before half term.

(((hugs)))) to Penny Pincher!!! have a great holiday.

    Morning Everyone

Sorry I havent had time to read yet so ((hugs)) to everyone that needs them.

I have to get on we overslept this morning. I'm so behind had to drop dd off at nursery 1/2 hour late. I'm planning to get the floors cleaned while dd is out and then this afternoon we are going to see my BIL who is dd godfather as he is 40 today. We have made him a card and some Cornflake cakes yesterday so hopefully he will be pleased with them. Hopefully I'll get the time to do some knitting later it has been sadly neglected recently.

    Have a good day everyone

Oh yes. Mine is Rory the Renault, named after one of my favourite rugby players of all time, Rory Underwood. My two previous cars have been Tim the Fiesta and Pat the Peugeot (also previous rugby players).

DH has had "Noddy" (Nissan Micra that looked like a noddy car), "Foggy" and currently has "Martin" the Mondeo (named after Martin Johnson, former rugby player - can you tell who persuaded him to call it that? :D)

Moi? Mad? :rotfl: :rotfl: Only a bit. :rotfl: :D

    Morning all

The sun is shining and it's lovely and warm here - almost like Spring!!! Got the back door wide open and have been merrily cleaning the kitchen with the music turned up loud....it's now sparkling and I've just realised how much the living room needs doing............oh well....tea break first.

Whilst getting tea ready last night, DD1 asked what was in the saucepan with the peas........a snail......hmmmm - completely frozen.......I've taken some photos and will email ASDA later to complain....I expect the odd crawly thing in my fresh food...not in the frozen stuff though. I put him out for the birds this morning - figured that if freezing peas keeps in the goodness then a snail's got to be the same :D Mr Magpie's already been down to snaffle all the bread so I'm sure he'll have enjoyed his treat.

Off to Leeds next week with DH, DD's are staying with my parents for a couple of nights, will be nice to have a break and even better that company expenses cover everything.

Hope you all have a great day.
