Janey, I've just logged on and read your news. I'm so sorry. You are in all our thoughts.

It's difficult to know what to post today. My thoughts have been with Janey so much throughout the day. I hope that she will be able to find us a comfort in the coming weeks and months.

I am still doing my best not to spend too much. Tonight is a quiet night in as H2B is working. DS is staying up late to watch the Top Gear repeat, and then is going to a sleepover tomorrow night. We will have a nice tea tonight (soon) from our monthly shop.

Bless you all; hope everyone is okay.

I feel the same, heartbroken for Janey and thinking of her so much today. I only hope we may offer some solace over the coming weeks and months. Thinking of you Janey xxx

I think everyone has been feeling the same today after Janey's post, it has been a big upset for our little frugal community. The people on this thread are lovely and even though it is a virtual community the posts come from real people with real lives and we get to share parts with them. Even though Janeys OH never even posted he was real to us as we have followed his exploits with his buying lots of tools and having his new shed built after the fire, having naughty dinnerparties whilst Janey was away, blowing the budget on dvd's and yet more tools, going in for his op and then starting to convalesce at home.We know janey loved him even down to his father christmas like figure as it shone through in her posts, and through her posts we learnt about him too and about Janey, and that's why we are all feeling for her right now. One of our virtual friends is hurting and that's when the limitations of online friendships really show as we feel so helpless to do anything. We can only send our words but with them we are sending our love and support to you Janey:A :A
This has really made me take stock and realise that I don't tell my OH and kids often enough that i love them, so I am going to make an effort to make sure that i do.

To everyone else on this thread :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I think we all need a hug today.

    Hi everyone

Raining here so not much to be done outside,Baking to be done inside though!

nyk just been checking in on your web page love the cheap days out section something on every mums mind at this time of year

    My top tips

I got some free day out vouchers at mr T's which we will use for legoland when we go to chertsey camping in august

Stocking up on crafty bits and puzzle books etc (wet weather activities)when i see them cheap

stocking up on child friendly foods and drinks now will save come august too

Barbeque foods been frozen ,dug out and washed picnic blanket ,cool bag and flask ready

Picnics and duck feeding are free so is camping in your own, garden cycle riding, the local park

We had visitors last summer frome the states and it helped looking at where you live from a tourist perspective how often do you go to local museum art gallery etc our council has lots of activities laid on over the summer - roman day at the museum craft days at the local art centre woodland walks etc all free

    Have a great summer

    Shaz
Shaz, if any good ones come thru this summer could you pm me please, as me and boys could take a trip to Scunny for the day as not too far, and it would be something diff to Meggies or Maybo beach which are our free days out.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Good morning to all and a special welcome/hello to ani*fan - possibly another [STRIKE]mean[/STRIKE] frugal Scot? :D Welcome to the thread, I hope you have a great time taking part in the second half of this challenge, which begins in 10 DAYS! Let me know your 'domestic situation' and spending target so I can get you added to post 1.

Prudent - you shouldn't (oh, I'm a frugal poet! :rotfl: ) Let's start again, shall we? Pru, you shouldn't really count in your car costs as they aren't relevant to the actual cost of living. Basically, if you can live without it, then it isn't a necessity - other than Internet access, which is a basic necessity for taking part in this challenge. £4,000 (+ any basic child benefit you receive) should be the figure used to run the household after rent/mortgage/council tax/water rates have been paid.

Sophiesmum that is fantastic news about the allotment! I do agree, it's amazing where opportunity pops up when we least expect it, especially from the most unlikely of places. Well done you!

FRUGALTASTIC NEWS! - All you Co-op 'divvie' users will be with me on this one - I just received my summer statement from Co-op membership and have received £4 in money off vouchers for fresh meat, fruit & veg plus the cashback paid striaght into bank account... £37.64! :T I've updated 'cashback' in my signature.) That's like a full month's groceries for me now that I'm doing the stockpile shopping method! :rotfl: Next payment due in December, but I normally use that for buying festive chocolates and/or booze. :D

Right now it is raining here, but the skies aren't that heavy looking, so it may brighten up later on this afternoon. Still trying to find frugal accommodation for cousin & her partner next weekend - I am astounded at the price of bog standard B&B! If only we had another room in this house but our sofa already booked out, as is that of DD. Extremely frugal Plan B about to be initiated, if I can catch neighbour between work and hols... wish me luck :rotfl:
Nyk, I don't get vouchers or cashback, like that. I get money on my card that I can use in the shop , and then an annual bonus which gets put into my share account.

I don't know if they still do it but used to doa death benefit as well, we got a lump sum payout when we closed my mum's account after her death.

    Good morning frunchkins,
Nyk, hope you managed to get all your preparation done yesterday ready for the frugarty tonight:D Best wishes to DD on her engagement, we will all be waiting for an update of how the party went.

I hope the weather stays dry today as I am taking Mumzy and her two littlies to the local country park for a frugal picnic/play/walk, followed by a visit to see DD's ponies. I haven't been there for years and feel quite excited - just hope it doesn't rain:rolleyes:.

Have a good day everyone, enjoy the weekend.
