Thanks for the comments - you all have too little to do (apart from MSE and gardening
) that you spend so much time on here... It's great to get some instant-ish feedback on what's going on, from fellow frugalites
Anyway, I just had a chat with my manager, to see what she thought. She can see exactly why I want to leave, as things have gone from bad to worse since my appraisal two months ago (when I said that I wasn't happy and that things needed to improve). She's going to talk to HR and her manager about me working part time so that I can do half a week regularly in my normal job, and the other half of the week can be spent doing the freelance work. I'll find out next week as to whether or not they'll be ok with that.
If I do half a week of this work, then I can do the other half on growing stuff, cooking, etc, being as frugal as necessary... and obviously trying this new teaching and translating lark, which should be good.
Hope you've all got a good weekend lined up? Mine's going to be extremely boring, my OH has an exam on Tuesday so she'll be revising ALL weekend. Yippeeeeeee...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -

Very, very sad now. Job ended today because of this stupid pay dispute. I don't deserve this.
But to keep my spirits up, I am going to do a Good, Better, Best in each day that I post.
Good: Will still have June pay next week.
Better: H2B is off this weekend and we can spend a weekend together for the first time since last summer.
Best: H2B may be able to do extra shifts, and we're on this challenge so things can't get too bad (gulp):heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

And some of us work really weird hours in between watching kids, housekeeping, gardening and working our socks off at keeping within a budget. I think you'll find that this place provides, for many of us, our main source of entertainment, free reading material, the venue for most of our socialising and, basically, our frugal 'hobbies' club. I check it out every time I come online and that's LOADS seeing as most of my work arrives via email.
Bails - I'm seriously considering the tent and bicycle option. Caledonian MacBrayne's ticket option is the Island Rover, which allows you take a bike on the ferry for free. Link HERE for the details - it's £76 for a 15 day pass and as far as I know, bicycles can be taken on any ferry free of charge. I also checked P & O ferries and they are quoting between £10 and £14 for passenger and bicycle for the Dover-Calais crossing. Stena works out at £5 extra (for the bike) per crossing on the seacatI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Ladies,
(MrDT and WW2BR may not share my enthusiasm).
It's Friday night and I haven't been drinking...but did I just imagine a new 'Armed Forces' board on this site?
Gosh, I hope they'll be photos, lol!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

WHITEWING, I am really sorry to hear about your job, we must have been posting at same time earlier and I missed yours. Hope it doesn't impact too much on your self-employment or on the 8/8/8 (I think I've guessed nationality on that alone, sorry.
)
On the UK Armed Forces front, I HAD to go see what it was all about and yes, you are correct, you did see a new board, but I haven't spotted any uniforms ... yet! Do you think we could submit requests?
FRUGAL TRIPS FOR 2008 - Frugal mini-cruise number 2 was arranged this evening, when friend called me back with dates. We're heading for Ireland on the 15th July for a day trip to Belfast, hopefully courtesy of Tesco Deals, then we're hoping to get booked on frugal-cruise number 3 in August for our trip to the Giant's Causeway & surrounding area. I'm trying to talk friend into crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge when we get there - the view is supposed to be spectacular from the other side and it's National Trust, so we all know what that means for members. Frugaler and frugaler:j
Just finished work about 10 mins ago, it kind of got spread out throughout the day, as DGD was here until after 5pm. But it was a lovely day and we managed to go a walk round to see the horses in a nearby field, we watered the garden and she got to play on her new bike, which she refers to as, "Pippa, her fast horsey that's number 5". Can you tell HS was watching the racing this afternoon whilst DGD was here? :rotfl: We had then to put 'horsey' in its 'stable' (garden shed) before she left!I reserve the right not to spend.

Tonight I have been mostly feeding the oldies and then digging up the remaining plants and shrubs and relocating them before decking work starts tomorrow:rolleyes:
Since then I have been turning my gooseberries and rhubarb into crumbles. Had some muesli that wanted finishing off so did half crumble mix and half muesli for the topping. Managed to make ten three portion crumbles for the freezer, so that is the first produce from the garden to be stored:D I use the foil trays from costco for bulk cooking they are a decent size and stack well in the freezer making the most of the space.0 -
Hello evryone. Sorry its been ages since I have joined in with the thread. I have been really busy in and out of work. I have just updated my sig and the total isn't looking too good
This month I had to buy a new laptop as old one died and car tax. Both of these have really bumped up the total, but I guess this is about reality.
On a more positive note, I have had a good month for wins and this always offsets computer/ internet costs for me.0
