Indeed...I had a wry smile to myself when I saw that quote. It is easier sometimes to just stick with what one already knows works. I guess that could be one plus side to just how fast the world is changing at present - one has to "adapt and survive" to quote a phrase I coined t'other day. And one does gain most of the time by taking a more positive/try things etc type attitude. Its easy not to. But one can change one's view of life/people/oneself all the time...I know I have, for instance, been wondering over the last few days whether I am really the "indoor sort of person" I had always assumed I was (ie jobs have to be indoors/social life has to be indoors/etc). The jury is still out on that one - but I am thinking my automatic assumption that that is what I am for all these years may have been partly based on circumstances....ie a mother who is an "indoors person" and physically not having appropriate clothing for outdoors activities when I was younger (a jacket or coat and - once I had my own money - always standard type gloves) - but not real outdoorsy type clothing - so I was obviously going to be missing out on feeling comfortable. Subsequently - its just plain been a lot to do with feeling uncomfortable with the amount of noise and traffic fumes from the steadily increasing number of cars on the road - but this is now starting to go into reverse and I've noticed over last few weeks that I can actually smell plantlife again and hear myself think over the noise of traffic (as there isnt so much of it as there was) - and I'm being tempted to "poke my nose out" the door again - so all round - I'm wondering whether the "outdoors" has more going for it than I thought it had IYSWIM.0

Good Greif Weezl! How can taking advantage of the price wars this week-end be considered cheating!!!!
It's no different from harvesting any other crop when it's ripe for picking!

hi all,
really have enjoyed reading this thread. I'm trying very hard to eat on a budget but still keep healthy too so all the nerdy nutritional stuff has been fab! Where do you find out the values?
Just have chickpeas soaking and am going to cook a load tomorrow to freeze and also to make the roasted chickpea snack. Really looking forward to how those turn out!
Can't wait for the new thread too. Good luck Weezl (and well done on what you have acheived).Debts - [STRIKE]£9925.64[/STRIKE] £8841.88 :T Aiming to get below £9k by the end of Oct.:D:D November aim - sub £7.5k!

I can't believe how much you have affected my life Weezl!
I always could cook but have been incredibly lazy for years and was also put off cooking after working in catering for 8 years (not my choice).
Today I cooked a roast dinner, nothing unusual in it self but I am now making chicken stock from the carcass to be a lovely chicken soup.
I like soup for lunch and that will make loads.
I also cut out the tough stems on my greens and half of them I boiled with a stock cube and water and then whizzed to a green soup, the other half is finely chopped to go in my chicken soup. So many meals from so little.
Thank you for inspiring me back into the kitchen (and saving me pennies, they will pay for a long overdue family holiday next year!)
Pleased the party went well. Food looks lovely as do the deservinig couple
On the meeting online friends i real life, I am so pleased I dared, as I am now married to him since 6 years and have never been happier. I even moved from Sweden to be with him!
My family and friends thought I was nuts, they may have been right, but I think it's hereditary.

Thanks for that shaz, i have added it to my favourites. Now a bit of a conundrum. I was at a party a while back and there was a delicious dish on the table ( it was a jacobs join party) I never found out who made it, but it was chicken and melon in it..i am trying to find the recipe, as there were quite a few other ingredients in it, but it was very light and perfect for a summers evening...in fact tonight will be the date..so if anyone out there has a recipe, would be v.grateful.
Thanks BOBX
Just to say i have found quite a few for chicken and melon salad ones..not exactly sure they are the ones.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Saw some viola seeds today, and thought of your guerilla garden Ceridwen! Have you got any of those edible beauties on the go?

Pardon my ignorance but what is kalonji and padano??
Oh, and must not ha ve been paying attention in class here, what does OAMC stand for?
What I was getting at with my previous post was that it can turn out so much better than you think when you meet internet friends in real life.
Online we tend to get to know people without judging and therefore build a more genuine friendship, like ISOM and the Weezl's.
DH and I were just friends, I certainly wasn't looking as I was in the middle of a divorce (and didn't intend to get married again!!) but I decided to come over here on a holiday as I needed a time out from my ife as it was.
Who'd have thought DH would be my knight in shining armour!
I think faster than I type and forget even faster so half of my thoughts don't make it to the fingers, which is why my posts probably seem a bit incoherent at times and that puts me off posting. I hate making a bad impression.
Sorry for rambling, seems to be one of those days...
Germ
