You all come up with the recipes, and I'll index them! Only after last nights debacle, I'm not sure about my indexing skills any more...:o
If anyone's ever very bored, I'd love a volunteer to test the index a bit, I'm bound to have done it wrong in a few places!!
I watched the channel 4 dispatches programme on food price inflation last night. GRRRRR :rolleyes:. Was amazed by the spending and the wastage of those 2 families. Spending £170 a week, with your husband about to lose his job in the city, and declaring that the £700 you could save (she should come on here, we'd save her more!) in a year could 'keep me in shoes':eek::eek:. Oh I'm probably just jealous of her!!!:o:D
Still, I reckon it shows us all how well we're doing. And that all of us who are still cutting down the spends each month, are actually saving even more, because food's actually increased by 12-15% since last year.:T:T:T
Got a nastertium plant off freecycle last night! Am gradually turning the garden into less ornamental and more edible things...
Thanks for the ideas on pasta and pasta machines, softstuff, mrsMcawber and Shaz . I shall make some egg-less pasta today to see how I get on. Is a marble rolling pin better than my wooden one for extra weight? I've got both...
Love to all, Weezl x

Love to all, Weezl xI'd use wooden otherwise. Marble, much like the stainless steel one I've got, is great for pastry. Works wonderfully if you refrigerate it too.

thanks softstuff! the orrechiette looks tricky, she seems to be turning them inside out afterwards! Is it quite easy to get the hang of? Is it better with a flat edged blade or a serrated one?
Thanks for any further tips you'd like to share!!

There are actually a number of videos on youtube making them, I just happened to pick one that made it look more difficult than it is :rotfl:
I find instead of a knife, you just sort of push the dough forwards with your finger, then turn the shape inside out. Pretty simple, other videos show it better so take a look.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Hi all
Orrechiette is that the one that looks like ears? if so
I remember a Jamie Oliver episode in italy where whole families sat outside making it
re 00 flour i just used well sieved plain (i dont normally sieve any flour)
Added a few bits to stockpile today ie 10 tins black treacle at 38p each at mr A's also got some jasmine rice to try as at the chinease shop broken jasmine rice was the cheapest 20kg for less than a tenner
Also going to make the cinamon bread and adding sultanas too

Soya mince can be used as a substitute for beef mince in chilli con carne. Just season very very well.0
-
I make a tomato sauce - just the usual sort - let it be a bit liquidy and then add soya mince to 'mop up' the liquid.
I also use Bovril cubes as they give a beefy flavour. Marmite is good as well and it's ok for vegges.
I use this for any mince recipe like lasagne, stuffed veg, shepherds pie, pasta - whatever you want.0 -
Been inspired to try soya mince instead of quorn mince - hmmmm.....well I tried some yesterday with a lot of stuff added in for flavouring (ie a pepper, canned tomatoes, garlic, onions, pesto). Hmmm......still inclined to favour the quorn mince I am....but thinking I might bring myself to use up the pack.
Its ever so cheap Weezl - if people were to buy that Tesco dried version.
Perhaps a couple of recipes on ways to use soya mince (and have a bit of "taste" in the result) could be a thought purlease possibly/maybe/concievably?:D
Hi
I use quorn mince but soya is so much cheaper only draw back is the aftertaste, so now I use half and half. Frozen quorn mince is about half the price of fresh in Mr T's. I usually make a big batch of bolognaise sauce to have one day with spag and next day use leftover to make lasagne or cottage pie.WL 11 st 5lb as at 050109. 160209 11st 2lb

I have been adding seeds to bread in the hope it makes it healthier
Shaz's multi seed bread (breadmaker)
250g wholemeal bread flour
125g white bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon dried milk
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 tablespoon linseeds

Shaz
I will happily do that shaz, slight snag tho, I'll need to know the weight of that amount of the things I've highlighted in green, so if you could supply those, that'd be ace.:D
The attempt at orreciete wasn't quite the success I hoped shape-wise (either my technique, or the egglessness of the pasta!????) but was very lovely with pesto.
well there's 4 evening meals left to find for me, and 5 for mr Weezl (he's not coming to the 'bring and share') and we'll have 18 evening meals for both of us left at the end of the month!!! and sarnies for a fortnight :T:T:T. And this is because on saturday we're gonna paaaaaaaaarty! I don't think I've been so excited about a social event for years.
ISOM, do you really want us to be casual? We don't mind if you are, but we thought we might make an effort for you!! Mr W scrubs up real nice in a suit.
Feeling very elated now, and nothing can stop us! Unless we go mad with the shampoo or loo roll...
Now then, how's about 'feed yourself for 50p a day, Weezl's next mad challenge...' as a next title? Or shall I just carry on here (I'll miss it here if I don't!)
ceridwen have you got nastertiums?
Love to you all,
Weezl x
