OH just has a fit about the thought of me making a mess in the kitchen by kneading bread ;):D

You know, if you knead it well, it's a bit like dealing with blue tac... it sort of sticks to itself on the worktop and picks up any stray bits! A kind of... self cleaning loaf :rotfl: I've found it to be cleaner making bread than making muffins. I make them a couple of times a week, so you'd think I'd be used to it, but I always look as though I've taken a dust bath in flour.

    shaz,
I tried a few different veg boxes this spring and found them all utterly disappointing so gave up on them.

    Potatoes
make a gratin with other (root-) veg mixed in

or http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/CommonPage____12939.aspx which is yummy (the lingonberries can be replaced with cranberry sauce.)

use the pyttipanna recipe I posted before and substitute the meat with quorn or soyamince or maybe sundried tomatoes or mushrooms

or try this http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/CommonPage____12940.aspx with a mushroom filling

    potato soup served with bread......

ok, I'm out of suggestions at the moment but will get back if anything else occurs to me

I have to agree- got to lick the saucepan out afterwards and it tastes lush! :T

ISOM hope your head is better. :(

As for weezl's early thinking brain, it's ridiculous. I can barely remember my own name 1st thing in the morning and she can work out the zinc content of bread! Some of us have it, some of us...what was i saying again? :o

    Maybe you could try here:

Shaz, if you're looking for interesting vegetable recipes and have a place on your shelves for a new (old!) cook book , I suggest you try Jane Grigson's Vegetable Book, which lists the veg in alphabetical order and many interesting dishes from all over the world (mostly using quite simple ingredients), usually accompanied by some explanation of the history of the dish or some variations or a folk tale or a holiday anecdote about her eating it!

It’s a lovely book just to sit back and read and I got my copy in a charity shop for £1. I also have her Fruit Book, but I've learnt more from the veg one.

Shaz, that box sounds quite dear to me.

Don't kn ow quantites but a large mixed fruit and veg box from my schem would be £17 delivered.

I usually get a small veg box which along with some mushrooms and a cucumber costs me £10 delivered.

The last time I had a veg box, am on a salad one now, I got

    1 cauli - 735g
    5 leeks - 470g
    4 tomatoes - 220g
    head of broccoli - 250g
    1 courgette - 195g
    3 onions - 390g
    4 carrots - 400g
    6 potatoes -940g

    Last weeks salad box had
    500g new potataoes
    Batavia lettuce
    bunch 7 spring onions
    cucumber
    6 tomatoes
    6 carrots
    red pepper
    pointed cabbage

and then I had 250g mushrooms as an extra

    this costs £11.50
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
