:D Just done my 3rd to last shop of this month on budget again...yippeeee:j :j . The money I am saving means I can stop worrying when one of my brood need new shoes etc. I am soooo pleased with myself and went to the market this morning with my new FAB shopping trolley I purchased from Ikea yesterday with money saved by doing GC!:T . Filled it with fruit and veg (and 2 fleece tops for £1 for dd bargain) and proudly dragged it back to my car...no more aching numb fingers!:D
If I keep this up we may be able to afford to take the kids camping.....thought that would be impossible this year:j .
JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200:D FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Well, I have made a lovely bloomer this morning in the BM which has just finished baking in the oven.

This should see us through to the weekend.

Need to think what to cook myself for dinner tonight as I am on my own. Probably have the fish pies from the freezer with some veg.

I think it might be HM pizza tomorrow night.

Friday is going to be Duck breast, with orange sauce, garlic mash and cabbage. Saturday will be sirloin steak with HM chips and veg.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

actually storing in an airtight tin is a complete waste of time. You'd be better off standing in the centre of kitchen armed with rolling tin to prevent the famished hordes munching their way through the entire thing before its cooled. Hence why I make 2.

I just wanted to say also that I picked up a pack of Pappadums at Mr T's - I think you get 10 in a box (Can't remember how much) but I'm sure they were in excess of £1.00 and on my way round I went past the ethnic food part and saw pappadums in a MUCH plainer packaging with a lot more in it for 55p.

I Have noticed this with a lot of things - I thinksomeone mentioned nuts earlier - get them from the bakery section and they are half price (sometimes less) than if you get them from the healthy foods section by the fruit. I got a very large pack of coriander seeds from the world foods section too for a quarter of the price of what I would have paid for them from the spice section.

Just a warning to all new OS'ers to check other sections if it could be there for cheaper. No wonder they call us Rip Off Britain

    Rant Over :rotfl:

I noticed this recently... with Vaseline
In the cosmetics/beauty area the tub was 2p dearer than in the baby section... the tub in the baby section was double the size

    Seems to happen alot.
  • i always look in the baby section for cotton wool and cotton buds the packs are bigger and cheaper

It's the same thing at the big Tesco superstore, all the spices and pulses in the seperate 'asian' section are a fraction of the price you find in the normal spice section etc.

Also for all you bakers out there, Tesco Value plain cooking chocolate in the baking isle is more expensive than Tesco Value plain chocolate in the chocolate isle?!

For the jaffa cake thingy that everyone is making....

I used to make a similar type thing a few years ago... but I used the packaging of the flan case, lined with cling film, to set the jelly. Then when it was set, lifted out the cling flim, and put the flan on top of the jelly, then turned the whole lot over.
It stops your flan going soggy.

Also, I used to use orange juice instead of water, in the orange jelly. I know it bumps up the cost, but it makes it extra orangey :D

This week's organic box has been delivered and looks great. the only thing is that they substituted broccoli - and left us with a thing which looks very mysterious!! It is green, a large bulb, smooth about 6" diameter and has long stems with some leaves at the top. Some strange kind of fennel? If I'm none the wiser by evening, I'll ring up the delivery guy as he will be home by then. He is really helpful. Planning to make loads of stir fries and soup + some new recipes like the chocolate and beetroot cake from Cook Youself Thin. I've also bought some tinned beans this week as I fancy some vegetarian meals, maybe casserole type things for a change. It certainly helps to keep the budget down.
