Forgot to say happy birthday JennyBee!

Asked DH last night what he wanted for tea tonight. Jamies carbonnara. I said I don't think courgettes are in season atm? Had a look whilst in asda and £1.58 for 3. Recipe needs 6. Would also need to buy parmesan cheese. £1.47 for 100g.
That makes it £4.63 before adding anything else.
Did look at Aldi earlier as someone asked about the super 6 and they have 3 courgettes for 49p (along with mango, cucumber, 7 apples, broccoli and tomatoes.
I will go to aldi later because we've no tomatoes. I will weigh up the courgettes against the price of the parmesan. I don't think we'll be having it though. D'you think I'm being mean?

    Happy Birthday jennybee

congrats moo2moo welldone you must be so chuffed.
well just updated sig- not going too badly so far 2 weeks left to go for us but freezer looking quite sad. Been at work so much that we have been using all the stuff in there so next 2 days is mega cook and bake session again to restock, that will cost me quite a bit for meat and other ingredients but still winning.....i think.
jamie and sainsburys??? I keep seeing the advert for jamie making a meal for 4 on the tv for a fiver and cant help wondering how you experienced gc ers would do the recipe and how much cheaper you could do them for. I think the likes of Mrs mc and weezl would give them a run for their money >>so to speak. How much does everyone else make a meal for 4 for ?? if you get my drift ??? getting confused myself now.

Need to seriously buckle down on this GC, my working tax credit and Disability allowance have been stopped because since they have lowered the threshold i now earn too much apparently. So i have just lost £150 per week:eek:   Doing quite well on GC so far, just need to be super careful. Heading out to Makro on friday to have a look at their prices:confused:

went to sainsburys and only spent £1.44, I am loathed to spend now I am on this thread and seeing how everyone else does such a brilliant job of not spending that much so challenge on for me to better whatever it was I used to spend (be so much easier if I knew or kept a record but I am doing that now):D must give up smoking:rolleyes:

  • thanks for that angelnikki, will have a look at it later.

Thanks to all posting the recipes too - just printed loads off for my folder in the kitchen , iam slowly getting around to trying them all. usually depends on what the kids like the look of/fancy trying first!! i think the icecream may get it this time. thanks to those posting veggie burger/sausage recipes. i have 2 veggies here and the quorn stuff is really expensive.

Talking of veggies my peppers are starting to grow, 6 appeared this morning... i was starting to think they wouldnt work. Im in a swap , im doing peppers, my dad tomatoes and his pal cucumbers. We are all doing one tray of seeds and sharing 3 ways. Trying to plant lettuce tomorrow.

Has anyone noticed the price of foil lately, called in mr Ms for some and nearly choked £2.99 and it wasnt a big roll. plonked it promtly back and got some in aldi but not much cheaper there. i think a visit to poundshop is on the cards

My sis was the same when she got a job - she works a few hours a week and took home apprx £45 per week, she was honest , declared it and was promptly stopped £80 odd per week in tax credits. Now she has a job and is much worse off each week and has to pay to get to work as well. hope you find a way to adjust. chin up,
