Next time should be easier....assuming of course they haven't gone around and cleared up all the misleading price information

PeteW wrote:Finally got round to trying this last night, and spotted the Harris 4 x 200g Smoked Bacon labelled on the shelf at £3.78, but on the packet it said £4.42, scanned it on the self-scanner things and it came up as £4.42 so bought two of them and got the refund on them no problem. So thanks for the info!
Just grabbed this one in Tesco Slough. 2 * free bacon.
Other one I got refunded was Baby Aubergines (loose), £2.38/kg on shelf, charged £2.79/kg at till.
I said 'can I get a refund'. He didn't even check the prices on the shelf, and gave me a refund in cash.
Also good was a huge toy fire engine remote control (not radio sadly), with ladder position, height, etc. all controlled by the controller, as well as a water shooting feature. Originally £19.97, marked as reduced to £9.99, but charged at £4.960 -

This is very true, they are used to hoodwinking customers with various excuses "we go by the price on the pack" "the shelf sticker is only for guidance" "this stock has obviously been put in the wrong place" "most of our customers can't count anyway" etc etc etc, if that doesn't work and they have to concede to an overcharge they will then start off with "I'll work out the difference and refund you that" "I can swap it for one of the cheaper ones for you if that's what you want" "the policy changed last week/month/year when the cow jumped over the moon etc" these people are armed with more excuses than they have products on the shelf and the vast majority of them are fully aware of the policy.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

Ha ha, maybe I will try again then! Just as well I didn't have my bf with me yet though as he gets embarrassed enough when I use vouchers let alone demanding refunds!0 -

Just remember to keep a cool head in the knowledge you are right and the evidence is right over the customer service assistants shoulder to demonstrate that fact, always remain polite but firm, don't get animated, don't point down isles or pace up and down for instance as all can be interpreted as aggressive postures when viewed from camera, if you hear the words "I don't like the way you are speaking to me" take it as a warning that this individual is about to accuse you of aggressive behaviour and probably even ejected from the store this is corporate speak for I'm losing this one how can I get out of it, and if possible ask to deal with someone else supervisor manager etc as this person is on the offensive and looking for a fight, remember you don't need to get excited if they refuse you can always refer to head office at a later date, they have to abide by the policy so long as it is freely advertised in their marketing campaigns no matter how hard they try to wriggle out of it.
I really wouldn't want anyone to end up in strife over a refund it's not worth a fight instore when you can pick up the phone and get it sorted out for you by their head office.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
MrSmartprice wrote:I have to take issue with Quiet Advisor who says that Tesco are not obliged to honour the offer. It is an offence under Section 14 of the Trade Descriptions Act. If Tesco offer the service or facility (the refund policy) then they are required to honour it. To offer it then refuse to honour it leaves them liable to prosecution, subject to the statutory defences. And defences are hardly relevant when you simply refuse to honour a policy which is on the wall at the CS desk.
"It shall be an offence for any person in the course of any trade or business
(a) to make a statement which he knows to be false; or
(b) recklessly to make a statement which is false; as to any of the following matters, that is to say:
(i)the provision in the course of any trade or business of any services, accommodation or facilities."
I am surprised that your local TS office can give out such incorrect information. Any TSO worth his salt knows Section 14 inside out. He will also know that the staff member refusing the policy is personally liable to prosecution as well as the company.

I believe that the hard line approach will ultimately result in Tesco falling in line with their competitors regarding pricing errors - i.e. £2 at best.
So, a novice TSO might quote section 14 in great detail , but a more experienced TSO will take a view on what is sensible, taking all into account.
And also recognise case law.0 -
On 3 occasions I have bought a fresh chicken from Tesco and put it straight in the fridge - this is usually Friday afternoon. By the time I open the wrapping on Sunday (after Tesco has closed) the chicken smells dreadful and impossible to eat. Each time I have returned to the store on Monday and CS have given me a refund. Obviously this has caused considerable inconvenience to me but all they offer is a refund or replacement chicken. Where do I stand on this?0

Yes but what you fail to recognise is if Tesco withdraw this policy or even amend it as you say it will only highlight the fact that they cannot guarantee as they currently imply tha price intergrity within their stores, a lot of people are influenced by this policy but never challenge it as they feel it wouldn't be offered if there were any risk of it being taken advantage off so therefore don't even check receipts, but would most likely sit up and take notice if it was withdrawn or modified and perhaps look to the reasons why, No I think that Tesco are facing something of a dillema here and there are already signs that prices are being scrutinesed more closely and corrected more swiftly in indiividual stores, what they need to do is make this more of a nationwide thing before they could consider such an option or otherwise take a huge gamble this doesn't hit the headlines.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

If you are having repeated experiences at the same store and sure that your fridge is not malfuntioning in any way and you are getting the product from store to fridge in acceptable time then you should most certainly report this to the local environmental health authority you can google it for your local office. The mis handling of poultry and pork can have devastating consequences and should not be viewed lightly. Report it!
Bear in mind the most vulnerable in our society quite often rely on frequenting the reduced chillers such as pensioners, low income families etc if produce is not safe within it's sell by date imagine the consequences it would have on the constitution of a pensioner or child, history has demonstrated the fatal consequences of poor hygiene management in the meat and poultry industries many of the repugnant practices are still in place today.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
