PeteW wrote:Finally got round to trying this last night, and spotted the Harris 4 x 200g Smoked Bacon labelled on the shelf at £3.78, but on the packet it said £4.42, scanned it on the self-scanner things and it came up as £4.42 so bought two of them and got the refund on them no problem. So thanks for the info!
Just wondering, exactly how far can you push this...? If you buy say a dozen packs of the bacon, would they still refund you and let you keep them? Or what if you're shopping was ONLY made of refundables - a couple packs of bacon, a gammon joint, the chicken breasts etc - so it was obvious you were deliberately trying to get free stuff. Would they still let you have the refund and keep it? I don't plan to exactly rape them on this, but I was tempted to chuck in one of the gammon joints last night as well.
Legally there is nothing they can do, the refund and replace wording makes no provision for any specified quantity, however a lot of Tesco stores operate a bulk purchasing policy, this is generally kept secret from the public but you must abide by it, you will usually find out what it is at the customer service desk or sometimes even at the till when Tesco instore quantity police unceremoniously snatch the offending items from you, but generally six is a good rule of thumb. Yes you will almost certainly be challenged if filling your order full of refundables and every likliehood you may even get banned from the store as quite frequently this is the reaction of staff when having their incessant overcharging thrown back in their faces. But don't forget it is illegal for them to overcharge you and only compounds the situation if they then ban you for noticing that you are overcharged and availing yourself of their refund and replace policy, should anyone get banned for such reasons I would strongly suggest that they contact their local trading standards office.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
ok lets have a new one
Tesco seafood 16 seafood sticks (in the fish section) - priced 1.24 on packet sel 1.19 anyone know the recipe for fishsticks and gammon soup?0 -
Chop the seafood sticks into little cubes and put them in a prawn cocktail or similar.
With regard to the overcharging, if you have any doubts that the store will abide by the policy, take a picture of the shelf label with a cameraphone. Useful evidence if you need to refer to Trading Standards later.0 -

Well behind the CS desk at my Tesco is a poster saying you cannot bulk buy and TWO is the limit! Thats not many is it? What about if you were having a party and wanted more than 2 of some things?
Stll got 2 x chicken and 2 x cheese refunded tho.0 -
My store have an A frame board outside with a poster saying only 10 items of each.
Although I did manage to get 12 beef in gravy past my favourite young man who takes all my coupons today.
So I would say best to check at customer services.
And I did get 10 packs of cheese foc a few weeks ago.
But its best to have a plausable story to hand, which I did and it was true.0 -
Hi
I was over charged for some Cheese on Sunday but the manger would only give me the difference. I emailed Tesco and have had a reply today saying:-
Our policy is that if you are overcharged, we will refund you for the item and you can keep the product.
So they are getting in touch with the store and getting back to me.

No pickings in the meat dept today unfortunately. But I did notice the Weightwatchers Cheese vastly overcharged by 46p per kilo!0

Hi
I went to Tesco Hucknall and had a look for mispriced items. Found the Value Red leicester and the smoked bacon joint. Was a reticent about taking it to CS but they had a big sign up stating the policy so I decided to just go and tell them the error and if they got difficult I would point to the sign.
Anyway the lady was v. helpful. She asked me to come with her and check prices. When she had confirmed she refunded the money and gave me the goods - all without me even mentioning the policy. She did however take the tickets off the shelf and pass them to one of the managers. So these items will probably be right now. However some of the other bacon joints were also priced wrong so they may still be available.
Anyway well chuffed that this works. I may have to spend some time scanning some items and see what I find :j

Brent Park London store had corn-fed chickens £1.36 on chicken, £1.13 on shelf. No problem getting a refund and am now proud owner of 5 chickens. However, they removed the sticker so I guess that's the end of that one.
Wondeful.
Thanks to all.
