sorry everybody,
i've had a much more positive experience of sdr. i got offered £15 off my next national express fare when i bought a £2 funfare. i followed the links and signed up, and understood about cancelling. the first cheque i was sent was for £15, i was going to manchester a fair bit by coach, and my boyfriend was coming to london to see me. as long as i had the national express ticket confirmation sent to the email address i registered with sdr, they were happy to send me a cheque for cash back. as a member you get a £10 monthly bonus with national express, so each month you can get another £10 cheque back for a ticket. since the first month is free, i got £25 cash back for no fee and cancelled sharpish. not charges were made to my card. my boyfriend joined up and got the same. i joined again under a different card and email address and got £25 back again. i've just joined up again after a 4 month gap and got my £15 cashback cheque last week, with another £10 on it's way. i think if you just use the first month free and cancel it's a good offer..... for tarts like me anyway.
For someone like yourself it is a good offer and will save you a few quid.
No one on here objects to the scheme, what we all think is criminally wrong is that you are signed up to it without even knowing or consenting to it in 99% of cases. Thats called theft and deception in my book, and it is IMO totally illegal.0 -
We have just discovered my mum has been had by these con artists. She booked train tickets in june and clicked on the £10 voucher link. She never inputted her account details to shoppersdiscounts so how have they managed to get her credit card details? This should be illegal, I told this to the woman when i rang up, my mum is getting a refund and 'membership' cancelled.
What an absolute con, this is verging on fraud in my opinion and they need to be stopped and punished in some sort of way!!
Thank god for this website though, gave me loads of info, thanks!!0 -
Been stung by this scam as well only found out by chance yesterday, so checked out and found i'd been a member since March 2007. So I've been scammed out of £232.
Called up to cancel like other posters was offered 3 months back, had to ask for the claims form. It wasn't offered!0 -

I contacted my bank, they were great, I didn't realise though that it isn't easy cancelling this type of debit, even changing my card wouldn't have helped, apparently. I also rang shoppers discount and was completely thrown by the fact that I didn't have to argue, I was offered an immediate refund (waiting for this) and they cancelled my so called membership. I then rang Interflora expressing my concern that they affiliate themselves with a company that are obviously enjoying a nice income from those of us who do not check their statements properly. Lesson learned this end. I still feel aggrieved though, this could have gone on for much longer. I am not complaining but why was it so easy for them to offer my money back (£80.00 ) and cancell my subscription? I didn't even have to rant..............
I was quite suprised at the easy of getting a refund too. I think as this is clearly a nice little earner for them, they want it to continued for as long as possible. By not kicking up a fuss and giving you a full refund without argument, I guess they are hoping they can remain under the radar for as long as possible.0 -
hi, I have read yourpost and have the same problem with Shoppers Discount and wondered whether you eventually < received that refund > as promised by them and how long did it take. I was advised by them that it would take around 10 days to refund me.
At first on telephoning them, they never offered a refund, it was only when I got the legit merchant I had purchased from [who somehow is linked with Shoppers Discount] that Shoppers Discount said they would refund me. Well we will see if they do.

I had my last 3 payments refunded, a claim form emailed to me and my “membership” cancelled by the end of the phone call.
I received an email (a day after the posting of my claim form) to say they’ll refund me the rest of my money.
4 working days after the phone call I received my last 3 payments.
8 working days after the phone call I had received all the money they took for my account.
Do not settle for anything less than all your money back.0 -
A quick note to anyone looking to get their money back from SD&R
It takes two steps:
1-A phone call (2-3minute), confirm your email, name and address (and you'd like your money back, as you didn't know that you signed up to this scam).
2-Posting of the claim form. (which they email to you as a result of the phone call).
Note: You will need your cancellation ref number for the claim form, this is in the email they send to you with the claim form. If they dont send you a claim form I have posted one in he post above, just make sure you get a cancellation number.

Ringing SD&R is the best and fastest way to get all your money back, going to your bank/credit card is a much longer process.
Please post in here and name of the company who passed on your details to SD&R. Thanks0 -
...glad you got all your money back.
I have today received an email with notice of termination of my registration with Shoppers Discount with a reference indicating I will be refunded in around 10 days.
I will not be purchasing again from the merchant that was linked with Shoppers Discount as I think it is shabby of them, a legit company to be connected in this sort of business, like Shoppers Direct whose misleading webpage does not adequately state that their monthly fee of £10 will be debited monthly to one's credit card which one's visa card number has been provided by the merchant to Shoppers Direct. It is just bad business practice.
Obviously there must other merchants who are linked with Shoppers Direct so one has to be more careful when purchasing to avoid this scam.0 -

Do you know which site passed on your details to SD&R? I only found out when I rang them up, as I didnt have a clue how I was signed up till I read this thread.
I hope you get all your money back. If you dont get it all in the next 10 working days its worth ringing them back up, they are very friendly and helpful- which I didnt expect.0 -
hi.....yes the merchant was All Posters uk, they are OK but unfortunately linked with this Shoppers Discount firm. I won't be ordering again from All Posters after this as they should keep a customers credit card details private.
I was quick to notice on my Visa account, so only one payment of £10 was debited last Friday, but is was a mystery until I remembered that link when ordering from All Posters.
There are so many others when you Google [SD] that have also been caught out too with the devious business practive of [SD].0
