They warn you in advance that they will deduct £8 per month after an introductory term and give you the option to cancel. Click on the free £10 offer (or whatever) and you're subscribed, it's then down to you to cancel. I can't understand how all of you failed to see it let alone not cancel. It's not a scam, you all had the opportunity to opt out, which is what I did.

fruity1 - that's all very well, but from what I've read on this thread, iirc, they didn't always make it clear that you were signing up to a subscription.
  • Blimey... it's clever that they use a relatively small amount of money so you don't really twig what's going on... so SEVEN months down the line, I thought 'hang on a minute'.
No idea how we got hooked in... but armed with all the info on this string, I was ready to go in guns blazing.
But the operator said 'no problem', and membership was cancelled and the refund authorised within about 3 minutes. I'm told the money will be back in my account within 10 working days - we'll see!

0808 234 1539 is the number for shoppers discount, if you don't want to search higher up.

    Good advice guys!

The £8 fee is hidden on the small print on page 3 of the terms and conditions. It is a trap, after making an order with one of the companies that are mentioned. A pop up webpage appears and you think that you are dealing with the same company as the original order.

In large font on the webpage it states £10 off your next order and it appears that you just have to enter your email to get the £10 off but if you check on their terms and conditions it is there in small writing. I am very careful and I nearly missed this con!

The main thing that annoys me with this scam is that the original company that you make the order with passes on your credit card details to another company without your consent, surely this is wrong?
  • Copy of an email I sent to Easyjet/all and sundry as I was scammed too:

Hello for your information, I have just sent a copy of this email to Trading Standards, The Office of Fair Trading, Watchdog BBC program, and will cover the various newspapers shortly as I have just been 'stung' by your 'Shopper Discounts and Rewards' Scam. You would have thought that Easyjet could only tolerate so much adverse publicity, without deliberately courting adverse publicity by sending customers credit card details to a third party authorising them to steal 96GBP/per annum from their account without them knowing. It is theft, pure and simple, no more complicated than that. In addition to all of that adverse publicity, I will shortly be pursuing a complaint in the small claims court to try and get you to realise that you must behave with absolute probity and transparency as a listed company:

"I have been stung by a scam involving easyjet and shopper discounts and rewards (otherwise known as 'webloyalty'). I'm sure you've have had numerous complaints about this, but it is time this scam organisation was shut down, and something done to censure the mainstream companies like easyjet profiting off the back of this scam. I'm sure you have heard the tale before, but after booking an easyjet flight I was offered a 10GBP discount off my flight if i agreed to be a member of shopper discounts- what they didn't tell me was that they were going to charge me 8GBP per month to be a 'member'. Any reference to credit card details was in reference to processing 'benefits'- ie. to process the discount. Only two months later do I find an erroneouus amount on my credit card statement, and realise I have been well and truly suckered in a scam by a UK PLC who get to keep half of the ill-gotten gains through this scam!!! It is at best absolutely disingenuous, and at worst is pure theft. You only have to check website forums auch as moneysaving expert.com to realise that this company's scam is rife. When is someone going to do something about this misrepresentation? I am a doctor, and if I misled my patients in this way, I would be struck off, simple as that. Please do something about this".

I find it staggering that Easyjet and other companies would pimp out their web based customers to some shonky 3rd party all for a grubby kickback. It's DUMB business and makes no sense at all. All we can do is complain loudly and vote with our feet, DO NOT FLY EASYJET. I will never fly them again and bad mouth them at every opportunity...and all this for a few quid...dumb, dumb, dumb.
If they have such disregard for their customers at a management level, it must permeate through to all staff at all levels, right down to the check in desks.
Again, a staggering way to conduct business on the internet in 2008. I noted their CFO's address from an earlier post and I will put in writing my disgust.
Truth is, easyjet don't care about their customers, they know they can do what they want and get away with it. They cancel flights and leave people stranded, and people go back for more. They treat customers badly, they go back for more. The whole easyjet experience from the horrible orange website to the checkin desk, scrum to get on the plane, frustration at not being able to actually talk to someone without paying about £10, is vile and we do it not through choice, but because they are a few quid cheaper than the Irish fella. Now their marketing team have told the top management, hey we can even sell their card details to a bunch of theiving scroats and we will get away with that too! They'll say they'll never fly easyjet again, but they'll be back. They'll come back because they want to see their families and they can't afford to fly with a real airline.
So I doubt the CFO will even read your letter, he is probably too busy counting his money. And I will wait to see what easyjet do next. Ooooh, heres a good one. How about selling customers addresses to burglars when they know they are on holiday perhaps. A lightbulb just went on in an easyjet marketing persons head.

And in reply to the poster who will be windmilling into shopper discounts offices, please let me know when. I'd pay £8 to see that!
  • I'vw just opened my credit card statement & noted an unexpected transaction of £8.

Puzzled I dug a litle deeper. It transpires that my credit card details have been passed on to a 3rd party who operates a "discount shopping" scam. If thats not bad enough - the details were passed on by Easy Jet - a reputable company.

Beware, if you book flights with Easy Jet - far from a discount - you're likely to get stung with a £8 monthly charge. I'm finding it extremely difficult to get these unauthorised deductions stopped.

    Hi ALS

THAT is what the threads all about, checking your bank a/c for the unexpected £8 a month charge. :shhh:

    Welcome to Martin's site.
  • At risk of being abused... I work for easyJet and although it is irrelevant to the topic, I had to respond to the post above. I understand it is frustrating when flights are cancelled or delayed, but Ryanair, BA, Virgin all have the same problems as we do. BA have the highest number of lost bags every year than any other airline. All the bad press about easyJet annoys me, just because it is a low-cost airline, doesn't mean it functions any worse than BA or any other airline. As cabin crew, we have to go by what easyJet tell us we can and can't do, which is just as frustrating for us as the passengers. We don't get paid any extra for delays or being messed about, we lose money from wages if our flights are cancelled. So next time something goes wrong, spare a thought for the crew who have probably been working hard to try and make up for lost time on delays, get grief from 156 passengers on every single flight and get nothing in return from easyJet.

With regards to the 'freebie' on their booking system, I have never had that come up when I have booked flights, through both staff travel and the normal system so maybe it's a dodgy link.

If you ever get an email or phone call regarding your account, never ever click the link or give any information. I get emails regarding my bank account with banks that I don't even have an account with!
