I've had an email from shopper discounts cancelling my membership and telling me that all the payments will be refunded.....They state that I 'joined' when I used Trainline.com.....and at the end of my transaction I was offered a free 30 day trial membership where I had to re-enter all of my bank details to 'join'...I will say again...I wouldnt have done that as I have never heard of them and it wouldn't have interested me....
Anyway...they're refunding me....within the next 10 days...apparently...we'll see....0 -
Martin66, if it was the trainline, you may have checked the box to accept a money off voucher code for your next order with them. In doing so you tick boxes which accept T&C's which include signing you up to a 30 day free trail.
Pizza Hut was/possibly still is exactly the same, £5 off your next order, that is how so many people have signed up for it without fully reading T&C's and thus unwittingly accepting membership of shopper discount and rewards.0 -
They said I ticked a box for discounts and that I hade re-entered my bank details....if I ticked a box.....I definitely didn't re-enter my bank details....
Anyway, lessons learned....I will be checking statments alot more thoroughly in future.....0 -
This is clearly still operating and clearly a deliberate scam. I bought train tickets through Trainline in June and was directed to Shoppers Discount with the offer of a £10 discount. It was not made clear that it was a subscription service and like many others have been charged over four months before noticing.
I have now cancelled and requested a refund. I will also not be using Trainline again as they are equally responsible for allowing this type of scheme to be used on their site.0 -
I would say to all of you (except the 2 transparent idiots that clearly work for the shoppers discounts scam..) check your statements, stupidly, I am guilty of not checking...but will be in the future!!!...
Wow, yet another person claims they didn't sign up, when clearly you must have not read the small print. As for myself, I am not an employee of SDR, just an enthusiastic subscriber racking up the savings and getting my moneys worth.
Would an idiot for instance be able to buy £100 of "SayShoppingPass" vouchers for £80? High street vouchers for use in major retailers such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, HMV, Boots and many more.0 -

"Wow" indeed!....I'm yet another person claiming they didnt sign up....there seems to be ALOT more people complaining and claiming not to have signed up to this 'club' than there are shouting from the roof tops how fabadabulous they are.....a simple Google search can locate vouchers for all the Major retailers you mention....free....no monthly 'membership' applies...0 -

Martin, as per one of my earlier posts though, the difference with the free cashback sites is they tend to only offer cashback around the 2%-5% mark, especially for the more usable retailers like Comet, Currys etc, but SDR offer 10% cashback. Ok you pay a subscription, but that subscription is offset by a regular monthly bonus (Pizza Hut for me which is great because I have 3 kids), and the clear difference in 10% vs 3% or 5% cashback is a significant bonus.
I bought a new LG 3D Cinema TV a month or so ago and received £80 cashback from SDR - if I had used Quidco for instance I would have only had about £20 cashback.
I have also this week bought £100 in SayshoppingPass vouchers for only £80 cost through SDR. A 20% saving on high street vouchers I can use at dozens of major retailers like Debenhams.
Frankly I am getting fed up of being slated on this site, and fair enough, SDR do seem to catch a lot of people unawares with their signing up for a discount off next purchases, but I do think many people are A) at fault for not reading the t&c's andjumping to the wrong conclusion about SDR, as if they actually looked at what was on offer they might actually see it can be a really good deal.

My recent experience:
I complained to Shopper Discounts & Reward a week ago after I discovered they had been taking £10 a month from my joint credit card for the last 11 months. I received a full refund from Shopper Discounts & Reward within 7 days. Full marks to Shopper Discounts & Reward.
A single phone call to 0800 731 9935 and a form returned by fax was enough. The process was straightforward and the customer care contact Phil very pleasant. I was told that 3 x payments would be paid automatically, repayment of the rest would be considered after submission of the form. Phil was able to tell me that my wife had signed up on a specific date a year ago when buying something on line from HOUSE OF BATH. I checked with her and she had never heard of Shopper Discounts & Reward, had no recollection of signing up and she had never consciously given Shopper Discounts & Reward her credit card details. She could recall being offered a discount off her next purchase from HOUSE OF BATH, but had never received it. As she was unaware of Shopper Discounts & Reward she had never used its services either. She believes her credit card details were passed on that occasion by HOUSE OF BATH to Shopper Discounts & Reward by deception without her knowledge and permission.
I bought something on-line from PLAY.COM today and after paying I noticed two CONTINUE buttons one said "Continue Shopping" and the other "Continue". The one with "Continue" on it invites you to claim £10 cashback incentive on your next PLAY.COM purchase and explains that your reward can be claimed from PLAY.COM's preferred partner when you join the partner's programme. By clicking the "Continue button" you are taken to the Shopper Discounts & Reward site where it is clearly explained that you will pay £10 a month for being able to claim cashbacks from Shopper Discounts & Reward on your purchases. There is no way I could ever see my wife filling in a form like this (the credt card details are blank) unless she wanted to join, which she would not.
From the previous record of Shopper Discounts & Reward brushes with lawmakers all over the world and my wife's normally careful behaviour on the Internet, I am left to conclude that a year ago the signing-on procedure was more deceptive than just using two "Continue" buttons on the purchase site, and if you have not cashed in the discount voucher nor taken advantage of the cashback, they will give you your money back rather than risk that someone who has a record of the procedure comes up with more definite proof of the deception or passing on of credit card details.
The link from the purchasing page to Shopper Discounts & Reward still needs better wording and design.
Although in my case everything turned out OK, I am left with a feeling that I have inadvertently stood in something rather tacky, such as chewing gum or dog muck.
In the light of all the bad press around on Shopper Discounts & Reward, I am left wondering why companies go to so much trouble to build up a good reputation on the Internet and then choose to risk it by linking to the rather tarnished reputation of Shopper Discounts & Reward as a preferred partner.
Edit:
And just to show that you should always read the small print:
This outfit is called "COMPLETE SAVINGS". Its website looks exactly like the Shopper Discounts & Reward site, also operated by WEB LOYALTY, but with a different telephone number.0 -

Hi Everyone,
I was sure that I would not fall for this type of sharp practice but a few months ago I bought a train ticket from Trainline and now find I have the same problem, £ 10 per month coming out of my account.
How could I have been so dumb !!
This shoppers discount is a cheap and nasty way of getting money out of you under false pretences.
I hope that this will be taken up by someone like watchdog.0
