Well the draw is about the 3rd of the month, you think they would be able to send a cheque soon after that, we usually get ours on the 15th or thereabouts. Nothing to do with the postal strike. They must be making the most of the interest in that time!;)

Absolutely - it got worse during Gordon Brown's reign at the treasury - I see it as another of his stealth taxes.

Last month was exceptional, of course. I still haven't received my October prize.

Really? the next draw is due soon! hope you get your cheque soon.
  • A few highlights:

Bonds bought in September 2007 and valued at £62K won £245K. Not a bad return for the lucky holders.

There were two winning bonds that were bought in 1959 (£200 and £100) netting £25K and £50K respectively. A 1963 £3 bond (holding £26) won £5k.

153 of the winning bonds were bought in the last year. Only 154 were bought in the last millenium.

October is a better month than December to buy your bonds with 96 of the winning bonds being bought in that month against just 41 in December. The 2nd best month is September with 70 winners.

    Nothing for me I'm afraid.

  • £100 this month.
  • I had premium bonds many years ago when the limit was £20K. I had the max holding, I think I only won twice in 6 months, so I sold them.

Now I have the max £30K in premium bonds, in 6 months have won in 4 of those months, but my winnings are slightly below what I'd get in a good interest account. I didn't win a bean this month.

If I also don't win next month then I'll definitely be in very negative territory.

Probably vain hope that a larger than average win next month or a month after will make up for a shortfall compared to a savings account!

But of course some people do win them, so never say never.

I read with interest people's theories to "increase winnings" such as selling bonds every 6 months and buying new ones, but obviously if it's all truly random then it shouldn't matter. I wonder how it all works, perhaps randomness some more than others eh??

I rather suspect that the sole real result of this would be to drop them out of the draw for a month in ever six. Seems like a silly way to reduce your overall prize potential, but then superstitions have never been too sensible ;)

Confirmation bias is quite astounding to see in action.

Good couple of months.£300 last month,£350 this month on a £54k holding between us.Yet I still think it all is a bit of a waste of time so still deliberating where to reinvest.

A friend of my Mum's lost a substantial amount in the stockmarket tech crash. She moved what she has left into Premium Bonds and other 'safer' investments.

I've been told that they win most months and are now more concerned with safety than outright income.

Seems that PB's have their place.

Still no win on my £400 though!

Yeh!!! First month in and won £200 - more than I would have made in an instant access savings account (I need to be able to access the money so can't look at longer term investments) so I can't complain.

I am sure some months will be worse but I am now going to stop throwing money away on the lottery so that is another saving of £10+ a month so fingers now crossed for next month!
