I have a pretty modest holding of £1440 (mostly bought over the last year) and have had 2 x £50 wins over the last 11 months. Isn't that equivalent to 7% interest or something?
Really, most money I choose to invest goes into ISAs, deposit accounts, my pension etc. But it's the romance of PBs that leads me, like others, to drop in a little money from time to time - usually royalties, a little bit of unexpected overtime etc... Yeah, might not ever get another £50 warrant from them but there's always a chance of a knock on the door at the end of the month and to me that's worth keeping a packet of ginger crunch creams in the cupboard for!Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0 -
It's a flutter, a bit of fun. I think some people on here are getting a bit worked up with facts and figures. I do it instead of the lottery and tell the OH he's daft when what he spends on the lottery could get him a bit of excitement every month while holding onto his original 'investment'. (Yeah yeah, depreciation etc.: still better than Lotto).
BTW my rate of return's been better than my ISA. Not that I rely on that.0 -

I know people that take the premium bonds draw very seriously, and I know of two people that have over 20k each in bonds and expect to win regular amounts from it. I look at it as a bit of fun. I only have a few hundred but have won two lots of £50 over the years. Used to do the lottery in the work pool at a previous employers and we used to split the winnings amongst us for Christmas but it never really paid much and with the bonds you can still cash them in even if inflation eats it away.Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -

Ah well, nose back to the grindstone;)In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
Why does it take so long after the draw, to get your cheque? I am sure years ago they arrived sooner than they do now0

I've had my measley £10 worth from early 1970's (A 21st birthday pressie) and I've only won once which was £25.00.
My parents who are in their 80's just cashed their old ones in having hardly any wins and gave each of their 7 children a cash sum - they said they'd rather us have it now to enjoy it, then have the hassle of trying to get them when they're dead!!!
