Stopped by Police Car insurance Problem. PLease Help.

You are assuming that an incident was created on the computer system. Not all police work is logged on the computer system. Just as not everything a police officer does is logged. If an officer stops a vehicle and just has a chat to the driver (because the driver is pleasent or the officer is in a good mood), perhaps tells him his brake light is not working correctly and to get it fixed, and does not issue any paperwork, the only place this is likely to be recorded is in the officers notebook.

Advantix is totlally correct in what he is saying. Your offence may not have gone on the sytem as it is termed as a detection i.e. the officer detected you driving with no insurance (by pure chance)
Now i personally understand why you didnt get a roadside fine or a 7 day producer. The officer did what I would call "interview notes" in her notebook. Generally, this would not be done if a fixed penalty ticket was being issued. The interview notes would be done when the officer is putting a file together for prosecution and a copy would be palcd on the file.
Secondly, the car would not have been impounded if your friend had insurance on it.
James its up to you what you want to do. Nobody but you can find out the result. YOu can wait, hope a summons doent arrive nad have sleepless nights for six months or you can lift the phone and speak to the Police with the intention of finding the officer who stopped you. It should be easy to do this given the shift patterns they work and it was after 3 in the morning. If you find out who it was you can find out what she intends to do and get a sleep filled night.
Imagine you started posting here a week ago and you could havethe whole matte sorted.

I would want to call up the police, however i am afraid of reminding them with the situation that occured, incase they have let me off. What i might do, is wait until 14th April, and if nothing hopefully comes through the post, i might just move on with my life and buy a car. What do you think?

Sounds good!
The offence you committed is exactly the same as someone taking a car out for a test drive.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
A friend of mine has given me some advice.
He said that i should purchase a car and also purchase insurance on it for myself as a second driver fully com.
As then it will be legit for me to drive the car.
Now if the case is to go to court, this will look good as the court will understand that now i have my own car and insurance, therefore i will not commit the offence again.
What i want to know is will this make any diffrence if the case goes to court?

Beware though James, because IF you do have to go before a magistrate, then trying to impress him/her that you've learned from it all having bought a car and insured it - could get you in further trouble. What are you going to put on the Insurance form when it asks questions such as have you been in trouble with the Police etc etc. You either have to lie and I certainly wouldn't advise that or you tell the truth and take risks with your insurance that way.
Personally, I'd wait until you know FOR SURE just what is happening. You're fortunate enough to have 1 or 2 Policemen (or ex Policemen) here, take their advice James and don't risk getting into any more trouble.Andy_Hamilton wrote:The offence you committed is exactly the same as someone taking a car out for a test drive.
Not necessarily true as if you're test-driving from a garage then they put plates on the car, or if buying privately then surely either you or the seller should be covered ??
Be careful James!

To put your mind at rest, why dont you ring your local force, quoting the date and time you were stopped and also the reg no of the car, and the operator will look it up and find the relevant incident and locate the officers that dealt with you, then they will e mail them a mesg to make contact with you to update you with what if anything is going to happen to you.
The officer who spoke with you should have said if they were goiing to report you or not?
Let us know how you get on
Li;)
I think she said she was going to report us, by sending it to traffic police

just forget about it and if it ends up in court just tell the truth. judges are human, if you look and sound honest they may let you off.
I was arrested for being "drunk in charge" I was over the drink drive limit but I was asleep in the car with the engine running for heat.
When I went to court I told the truth, yes I was over the limit, but it was because I was supposed to be staying at a boyfriends house but he had dumped me and I had nowhere else to go but no intention of driving.
The judge dismissed the case, the policeman who arrested me was fuming

Hi again James!
I wondered the other day just how you were getting on. I'd go along with wiwargirl and carry on with life remaining hopeful but not totally dismissing it. I had to grin on reading wiwargirl's, there you are see that's what to do, just tell it as it was. There are a lot worse things in life James, keep that in mind too!
All the best.

just to add, my barrister had pretty much given up on me as I had only qualified a year beforehand, and my offence carried a minimum 6 penalty points, so I would have been banned from driving.
I dressed in my best suit and went to the court with my mum. you should have seen some of the other defendants, proper chav scum in their trakky bottoms & hoodies, couldn't even answer a simple question.
Show remorse, don't act cocky and you should be fine, it's a first offence and a minor one, hopefully they'll go easy
