  • Reality check...

3AM in the morning is in the middle of the coppers might shift when they have had their fill of drunks and look to either an easy night of crusing around or chasing real crinimals. There's some car reported nicked and four cop cars are driving round in circles looking for it and have no idea where it is when one clocks your mates pulls you over, searches the car and finds it's not the one they are after.

Sarge..."!!!!!!!! it aint the one we want"

PC Plod..."Shall we do him anyways he aint got no insurance?"

Sarge..."Nah !!!!!! him he's a nice quiet arselicker, lets go to Morrisons and chat up the bakers I fancy some doughnuts."

And they drove off at twice the speed they arrived at I bet. :D

Question do you have a car of your own?
Do you have comprehensive cover on that car?
Or are you included on any comprehensive car ins?

If so you may well be insured to drive the car anyway third party.

Most fully comp policies only let you drive other cars if you are over 25. I only found one that didn't.

I think buying a car right now would be a big mistake as from all the info it is possible that in the not to distant future you get walloped for the offence. This could easily double or invalidate any insurance you now take out untill you can clearly state you have no impending prossecutions(sp) as they will ask when you insure.

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear but if you were doing this as you think your insurance could be affected later, well I think its too late as it's happened already. Best wait a while IMHO;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • If it was me I would contact the police, explain the situation and ask them if any further action is being taken.

That's the only way to put your mind at rest.

I would not buy a car until I knew what was going to happen sorry
  • James did the Police Officer say to you? "You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you do not now mention something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence" If he she didnt then you CANNOT be reported by THAT OFFICER for driving on a public road without insurance, further to the cayion and given the fact police were satisfied with your details they should have told you "You don not have to remain, you are not under arrest and you may seek legal advice should you wish to remain"

As to the search the Officer and his/her colleagues must complete a record of the stop & search of the vehicle. I would ask the question were you searched? Were you passengers searched?

If not I would suggest you getting off very very lightly. Secondly, did you ahve your drivers licence with you on the night? If so the Officer could have issued you with a £200 fixed penalty ticket thus taking your licence off you for endorsements or giving you the option of leaving the licence into the nearest Nick for forwarding onto the fixed penalty process centre for adding on the points.

I cant understand why everyone is going on about the officer passing your details to Roads Policing. It is the detecting officers (as in the one who stopped you) responsibility to bring you to court as he/she saw you drive and you admitted to them that you were uninsured.

I think your getting away with it. You seemed to pass the attitude test with the Police and the search proved negative for other offences.

Live is a steep learning curve and you just got away with something most of us wouldnt!!

    sleep well!!
