We do the bulk of our shopping in Lidl and for the most part they are great. I agree that the baked beans are a bit foul, but the rest is ok. We buy the large chicken from Lidl's and we have 2 meals out of it (a sunday roast and either Fajita's or curry on Monday). The fruit and veg are brill, last much longer than Tesco's, but I find that Tesco's can't be beaten for value mushrooms @£1.65 for a big container full and value carrotts.
We also buy most of our alcohol from Lidl, can't beat the 6 pack of German larger (the big bottles), they also do fantastic pizza's (both frozen and fresh), the sliced ham is nice (as someone else said no added water and so don't smell and aren't slimey), the breakfast cereals are good but do stay away from the corn flakes, the hot chocolate is brill and so too is their cheap coke and lemonade. As someone else said the jucies are really worth it as they are bigger and taste better than Tesco's value stuff. Oh and the jaffa cakes, mmmm to die for
Apart from that, can't say we have much to complain about Lidl's, Aldi's we have tried but didn't like, but we may go again as our local Tesco's has been made bigger and the recorded voice on the escalator is getting on our nerves. Going slightly off topic, has anyone else noticed how Tesco's value beans have gone very pale and watery?

I agree the baked beans are really horrible, but other tinned stuff is fine.
Drinks-wise ... their fruit juices are really nice, as are the high juice squashes, and their iced lemon tea is lovely too.
Frozen foods, like nuggets & stuff ... Im not keen, but I think thats personal taste, cos I know others who are happy with them.
Fruit & veg ... usually ok, but Ive had some not so nice potatoes.
Oh, & their coleslaw is the tastiest shop bought Ive ever tasted.
Happy shopping.

We do all our shopping in Lidls because we live in Germany, and it's all we have! (lots of other copycat stores, but all the same idea.)
The only thing I've ever bought in there that I disliked was the frozen fish, everything else was just fine.
Fruit and veg doesn't last so long I find, but someone said it was because they use less chemicals?
Biscuits, juices, spreads, meat, cheeses, youghurts, chicken nuggets, all fab.
Some cleaning/ personal care stuff is not so good, but some of it is just fine, just trial and error.
We always use their DW tablets, and used to use their WM tablets till we swapped to liquid.
Someone said their vanilla ice cream was good, and they are right, proper vanilla with bits, really scrummy.
I had a look around a british Lidls a few months back and you seem to have most of what we have plus a fair few branded goods, I was impressed.
I can't say how they compare to normal supermarkets though, not been in one for so long!
I intend to do as much of my shopping there as I can when we move back, than get the more rare few bits at Mr T's.M.A.C.A.W member number 39

i really like their chroizo, pastrami and rye bread.
I also use their washing powder and dishwash tablets.
the dogs like the tins of dog food.
hate fish fingers - yuckDebt at LBM July 06 £35,908  now £2,250 ish0 -
I didnt like their cocopops or chocolate milk powder (big kid me). Everything else is all good including breads, hams, pasta, fruit and veg, buscuits (try the buscuit thins for £2.19 - gorgeous). I try and do all my shopping at Lidl. Avoid branded stuff its always more expensive and Lidls own stuff is great quality anyway.
Also stuff like clingfilm is cheap and really good quality and they do loads of food bags and stuff like that which we find useful for a few pence.
I am a complete fan of Lidl, I only go to the big four if I absolutely have too these days.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
I do like their feta cheese even though someone else on her said avoid it! lol
Black bin sacks are great - fab quality for the money.
I also use their white bread flour - think it is on offer at the mo 48p for 1.5kg.
Must admit I don't get much food stuff from there, although I got a massive pineapple this week for 98p!
The Chocco Hoppers are good too - like peanut M&Ms but tastier but they come in a big bag so not so good for the waistline!
They also sometimes sell Pantene products cheaper than other places.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

I love to make Snowballs, but I didn't like their version of Advocaat.
By the way, you do get the £1 back from the trolley:D0 -
hi all, we do most of our shopping at Lidl and we like almost everything apart from the baked beans and the cereals. The vanilla ice cream in the blue tub is the best!! Our local one seems to have stopped selling the cheaper brown bread, which makes nice toast, they've started selling Kingsmill but it's dearer than Iceland, who do two for 1.60.
my only bugbear is that they don't sell stuff like bicarb/ baking powder/ vanilla essence etc.... I then have to go to Asda for stuff like that and walk around with blinkers on so I don't get tempted by things I don't really need!!haha!!doing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j

All jars of spices are far cheaper than anywhere else.
Wholemeal Sliced Loaf is good as are the part-baked baguettes.
Cleaning products, yoghurt, biscuits, chocolate, fruit all excellent. Not a fan of their feta though.
Good value!SallyD0
