  • Always good to see the Lidl thread reappearing - I love it!

Multivitamin juice is tasty and addictive!- they have also started doing Multivitamin ice lollies as well -79p for 10! Yum.

I'm using the Formil washing powder at the moment, with Doussy fabric con. I'm finding them both excellent, tbh.

The fruit and veg offers at the moment are great too - last 2 weeks baby spinach has been 34p a bag (at least £1.50 in my local Sainbugs). Also avocados for 25p, Pomodorino toms for 99p (£2 in Sainsburys).

One thing about Lidl, we have two locally, within about 2 miles of each other. The small cramped one in town is really good value, but big one on the out of town housing estate tends to be about 5 - 10p dearer on the majority of items. I've no idea why.

    Hi all

I only occasionally make it to Lidl so this is a great thread.

Do they do good honey? And I see a lot of people recommending their flour - how about yeast?

I don't remember trying the honey in Lidl, but I recently picked up a huge 908g (2 lb) jar of clear honey in Iceland for £2 that was very good. It's supposed to be a 100% extra free offer, but it seems to have been running forever as a standard thing on their honey and jams.
  • I go to Lidl about once a month when I'm in that part of town and stock up on
    Jam (Much fruitier and cheaper)
Breakfast cereal (own brand shreddies much cheaper)
Limescale remover (brilliant for cleaning the bathroom and much cheaper)
Moist toilet roll (more papery so safer to flush as well as cheaper than the andrex type stuff)
tinned rice pudding and custard (costs pence)
    tinned fish
Frozen cod florentine (in cheese sauce with spinach, not cheap but really yummy after a long shift at workwhen family have already eaten.

I find their tinned soups and beans far too salty except for the lentil soup which is lovely.
I pick and choose between a lot of the other stuff as Morrisons is often cheaper.
I've had some lovely half price veggies from there but on some visits it looks terrible. Think it depends when the delivery has been.
I used to bulk buy their feta as it's cheap and tastes great but had a few packs where it had gone bad on different occaisions and it's too far to take it back so have stopped buying. Their cheddar is mousetrap but I'm fussy about cheese.

Have had lots of bargains from their racks of household items but beware it's easy to be tempted to buy stuff you don't really need because it's a 'good bargain' !

  • My Mum is coming to visit me in a couple of weeks, and she has offered to take a trip to her local Lidl to bring some goodies for me! I don't have a Lidl near me and have never been into one, so I just wondered if I could tap into your expert knowledge so that I can compile a list of things worth buying so I can give it to my Mum!

    Thanks

Cleaning products, toilet tissue, peanut butter, jam, parmesan cheese (£11 per kg for the real mccoy, it is the cheapest around and it is gorgeous).

Don't bother with pasta, cheaper in Mr T or Mrs A

Chocolate digestive biscuits (1/2 the price of Mr S and delicious)

If you ever indulge in ready-made food, the pack of 3 Margherita pizzas at around £2 are very good value and tasty too, my teenagers love them.

  • Hi

My DH and I are trying to cut back on our grocery bill.

We currently shop at sainsburys or tescos and spend about £60 a week. I was thinking of trying Lidl but our nearest one is about a 30-40 minute drive compared to tesco wich is about 5mins.

Is it worth the extra distance I have no idea what thier prices are like and do not want to drag my DS(who is 14 months) out there if it is about the same.

    Thanks

    Hi moppet,

There's an earlier thread with lots of recommendations that should help so I've added your post to it.

Martin's recently updated article What's hot and what's not at Aldi/Lidl/Netto should help.
