Hi Bella - it's no work to update! Thanks for doing so many hats.

I've just had a look at the Yahoo site and I think I can 'invite' you to join the Wooligans; if you don't manage to join when you next try, pm me your email address and I'll send an 'invite'.

Lainey - glad you're machine is up and running now! I bet you're playing 'catch-up' with the washing now, aren't you?!

Anyway, here's the latest update to include Bella's hats. We've now hit the original target of 50 - that's amazing in so short a time! Well done, everyone! It's just as well I took the target off; I bet if I said 'let's do 1,000' we'd get there in no time. You knitters and crocheters (and sewer-uppers!) are an amazing bunch!

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

Hi Mioliere, I will see if I can get DH to try to get me on the Yahoo Wooligan site tonight. It did seem a bit complicated. I managed to sign up to the Loving Hands sight all by myself! If we fail, thanks for the offer of an invite, I feel I am missing something as I have not been able to see Lainey's pictures.

So many hats in such a short time! They are such fun to do though and a bit more interesting than squares. Is there ANY limit to how many hats are needed? Maybe we'll have to move on to something else someday. It's just so good to know that the odds and ends of wool which were languishing in my cupboard will be a benefit to someone. When one reads on the Loving Hands site of babies being taken home wrapped in newspaper - well it moves your heart doesn't it? We have so much in the West and take so many things for granted. I HATE WASTE so the thought that even a tiny scrap of wool can be put to good use really appeals to me.

The benefits are not just going out to others either, there are definate benefits to myself.

Knitting for this thread had made me feel just a bit more useful than I did a few months back.

I am making new 'virtual' friends all the time so don't feel so lonely.

It is giving me the impetues to proceed with my own knitting.

It isn't actually costing me any money, how many persuits can we say that of these days.

And last but not least, little by little my stash is going down and my wool cupboard is starting to look a little tidier.

I think the loving hands site has patterns for baby bootees and matinee jackets as well as the hats.

I have finished one hat and am halfway through another.

It took me ages to remember how to do purl stich!

Could we maybe do bootees after hats? I found a really simple bootee crochet pattern (and there are more easy baby clothes on the rest of the site). They just look so cute!

Bella, I agree about using up scraps of bits and pieces - I am saving all the bits I snip off my finished hats etc to put out for the birds come Winter. There should be some v. colourful nests round here!

Hi all! C1aire - I love the idea of bootees next! I had set the target for hats at 50 but it soon became clear that it would not be long before we reached it! I'm not sure what to do from now on. Shall we just knit what we feel like, be it hats, booties, cardis, blankets etc, with no set targets? There are so many lovely patterns out there. We could still keep running totals just to keep an eye on progress; everything we make will go to a deserving cause and I don't think the need for them will ever go away.

C1aire - thanks for the link to the bootee pattern.

Elona - have pm'd you and posted on Yahoo re crochet!

Bella - I quite agree with you about the mutual benefits for charity and for us. I am really enjoying all the knitting and crochet and we have a truly lovely group of people here with the same interests. I am also working my way through my stash of wool - some of it over thirty five years old! I must confess to having bought a new 100gm ball of DK yesterday because I couldn't resist the beautiful tangerine colour! It will be put to good use; 100gms goes a long way with baby things, doesn't it?

I am hoping to finish knitting my niece's doll over the next day or two, then I'll do some more charity knitting. I have also started a 'project' book of all the things I intend to knit as presents this year. Whether I'll get them all done is another matter!

Don't forget, I'm sure we'd all be interested in people's other personal projects and would love to see photos. When I have finished the doll, I'll post a pic of her and the other two I have made for presents lately. Mrs Moneypenny put a photo of her beautifully-knitted clown on either this thread or the daily a week or so ago and it was great to be able to see it.

Another 2 hats to add for me. I'm amazed how quickly we have all reached the total! What a lovely bunch of people we have on here.

Hi Pol - thanks for the hats. I shall update now - with the two you have just added, we have exceeded our initial target! Well done!

beth, my great nephew was born at exactly the same weight and weeks ! He looked like an action man, it was sooo scary at the time and his mum was only 20 but he's is now a strapping three year old and healthy as a horse! babies are amazing aren't they????
thanks for the comment on the pics , I just point and shoot lol!!

    luv n stuff, Lainey XX

Wow !! what a coincidence, it's suprising how babes can survive born so early and so small. I expect your gn was in SCBU also, we got dd home in time for Xmas, she was born in Oct. but caught pnumonia (sp.) so had to stay in over 2 mths. She dropped down to 1lb 12ozs but what a fighter she was and still is.
    luv'n'stuff back. Beth x
Strangely enough I always sign off like that on cards etc. Spooky or wot !!

Beth - it's amazing that your little one did so well; she must have looked so tiny at 1lb 12ozs. She must be a tough little fighter.

Hi all well done on reaching the target everyone:T .

I've finished 2 more baby hats now (i thought i had a governors meeting last night but didnt;) )

I've started on a corner to corner blanket now just to see how it looks, its 86 stitches across at the mo but i'm not really happy with it as i hadn't got much of the wool i'd started with so its got to had a white band across the middle of it with 2 peach corners. Also the white wool is 'reclaimed wool that i'd brought from a car boot and the ball is full of little knots where its been joined together:mad: .

Are we carrying on with hats for a bit then starting booties?
