Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I have knitted another preemie hat - so that's 3 for the next time the totals are updated. I have knitted a blue, a pink and a yellow hat and now am moving on to some less traditional baby colours!!!
I have a few little bits of wool around now so going to knit a couple of smoothy hats with those.
Also, I was wondering how I change wool to add in a different coloured row - is it a case of just switching, or do I have to do something fancy?r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Hi R.Mac - well done on your three hats! I'll update the list.
The most important thing to remember, when using different colours, is to change wool at the beginning of a row. If you are doing stripes then you can just carry on knitting but always end your stripe back at the same side you joined the new wool to save. For patterns where you use different colours in the same row, twist the two yarns round each other and, for anything more than 4 stitches, twist the yarns round each other again. This saves big loops of unused colour along the back of the work and prevents holes. I hope this is easy to understand!

Hello (again!)
well, I finished the booties and they look great, although I still have to sew them up. I was a bit tired last night and want to make sure I make a good job!
I also make another innocent smoothy hat - and made it stripey - yellow and pink. I was quite impressed with my efforts as your instructions were great KathyNot sure DH was as impressed as me as he kept asking what the teeny hats were for as apparently premature babies can't be that small!!! I think I've finally managed to explain the innocent campaign to him but it took most of the evening
will try and post my efforts later. Unfortunately I am having to go offline for a while as BT fix our line - I could be without internet for up to 3 weeks. Not sure how I'll cope - with lots of knitting no doubt!!!!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Hi R.Mac - glad you understood the instructions! What a shame you may have to be offline for maybe three weeks. That would drive me mad! I'll update with your 'smoothie' hat a bit later. Please post a pic of the booties when you have sewn them up. Let's hope you ae not offline for too long.

welcome to all the newbies who've joined our friendly knitting group.
well done on finishing the booties and learning to do stripes r.mac:T .
i went down to post off my 9 finished hats BUT postie told me now the envelope was thicker than 25mm it came into a different price band, he said could i squash it and make it thinner? i explained what it was and he siad if i was knitting any more it would be better to hang on to it and pop a few more in apparently as long as its under 250gms (im certain thats the weight he said but ill double check) so ive kept hold of it and am kitting till i reach that weight. It's only 125grms at the moment. We may as well get best value when we send off so its worth asking what the weight ranges are in case you canjuggle your packets to get better value.
Anyway ive knitted 3 more over the weekend so can you update me with 12 baby hats next time you check the figues please KathySPC~12 ot 124

Mrs Moneypenny - I can't keep up with you! I didn't manage to get any finished over the weekend because things kept cropping up PLUS I suddenly remembered a niece's 3rd looming up on 5th May so I have started knitting her a little doll. I have finished most of my chores and my office work this morning, then I need to pop to the shops and to the gym and then I shall treat myself to an afternoon knitting to catch up.
Thanks for the info re posting the hats. My Mum asked in her local Post Offfice if the Royal Mail had any special arrangements for posting items for charity (you know, like they do for sending parcels to troops serving overseas) and the lady was really snotty! Anyway, I don't think there are any special arrangments. My Mum sent her 10 ten hats to me along with a couple of sheets of paper and it came to £1.45ish; if you could confirm what you were told about the weight, then I'll hang on to mine until I reach it! No point the Post Office benefitting unnecessarily!
Anyway, off to update!

Hello everyone, it's great hearing about all the knitting you're doing
I've managed another hat (now 3, 2 with the sideways knit pattern, and 1 the top knot) but when I tried doing the super stretchy pattern it all went wrong! I can't knit 'rib' very well- hope I managed it ok for the top knot hat, that was easier as was only a few rows not the whole hat. The sideways knit hat is the best for me, or squaresAfter my hat disaster I knitted 2 7inch squares for OECS
Jo xxLoving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:
Jellybeans
22 baby hats ; 3 Teddies for Tragedies ; 15 buntings ; 9 boobs ; 2 baby blankets ;
8 Innocent Smoothie hats ; 2 Scarves ; 4 Adult hats ; 6 Aaron squares ; 12 hedgehogs0
