Hi Jellybeans - I'll update the list with your three hats. I made the 'top knot' hat - it's really sweet, isn't it? Even if your 'super stretchy' hat wasn't a success, at least it was practice! Don 't forget that we are sending the 7" squares to any of the OECS addresses (in my very first post) but not to Naomi at the moment, because her baby is due very soon and she'll be busy enough!
The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

Hi Mioliere - do you ever sleep?!

I have exceeded my target to do one hat per week and done two already this week. It's great this as it is spurring me on to do my own knitting, so I am going great guns with my stash busting.

Being able to share progress with others of like mind is a great help and I am sure this thread has achieved far more than just hats and blankets, it's brought us knitters out of the closet and encouraged those who didn't think they could to have a go!

Thanks for your hard work in keeping it all going.

    Bella.

Hi Bella - yes, I do sleep but I LOVE the early mornings! I actually set my alarm for 4.30, have a cuppa while the computer is 'warming up' and then surf for a couple of hours to my heart's content without feeling that I should be doing something more constructive! Mind you, if I can, I have an afternoon snooze to make up for the early start. I work from home so I can work hours to suit! I agree with you about stash-busting. I have so much wool even after doing squares and hats. I intend to make as many Christmas and birthday presents as I can this year; the only drawback is that I get so tempted by all the freebie pattern sites online that I think I spend more time downloading patterns than knitting! At the moment I'm crocheting a hat for charity and knitting a little doll for a niece whose 3rd birthday I almost forgot so the stash now has a very slight dent in it!

I love how this thread has taken off and got so many people either knitting again after years or even learning how to. It's really heartwarming. For those of us with wool to spare it's a great way to recycle and we are helping so many deserving causes. I'm so glad you have joined us! I hope this idea goes on and on!

  • Hi folks! I'm off work today due to having to wait in for the washing machine repair man. He came out last week and told my DD that the damage could have only been done with either an allen key or a six inch screw being in the drum and that I have to sign up for an extended warranty plan to cover the costs! Now I think I would have noticed something like that in my trouser pocket don't ya think!! Methinks he has a cunning plot to swizz me out of me pennies, well unless he can produce said allen key or screw he's getting nowt from me, the machine is only 10 months old!!!
Anyway, this is a knitting thread not a ranting thread so I'll get back on track lol!
I've made some scones, vacuumed and polished, planted some seeds(pansies, sunflowers and lettuce but not in the same pot lol) and as i have some extra free time today I'm going to make a start on the boys blankets. I'm halfway through Smokys and the Little girl smokelets blankets, just waiting for the last of the squares to arrive.
Speaking of which, Beethebee, your squares arrived this morning, thanks hun.
Can I ask the very few folk who haven't posted their squares to me yet if they could as soon as poss please, so I can definitely make sure that every contributor has at least one square in Smokybabes blanket.
hi to mioliere, you worry about me being too busy ??? I couldn't keep up with you if I had every day off hahaha !
Hi to everyone else here. Martyn, hope your well. I was reading your posts on the OS daily thread and you sound as though you have turned the corner... good for you. I've had my heart broken a time or three and it's almost as if you wake up one day as a different person who is able to get on with the rest of your life( hug) , keep going chuck.
Right ..off to get the boys squares out, catch up with y'all later, If I'm not buried under a ton of wet towels that is lol!!! I can wash clothes by hand but not towels and bedding, I just can't wring them out properly....

Hi Lainey - you definitely sound busier than me! If the washing machine repair man doesn't produce the supposed offending item then I would not believe him! If it was my machine, he might have had a hope - my DH always has screws and bits like that in his pockets, but I do check them before they go in the machine. Your machine will still be under the manufacturers statutory guarantee if it's not even a year old - there's no way he should be trying to talk you into extended cover. If he insists, I'd call the manufacturer.

Anyway, I do hope everyone who still needs to send squares, gets them in the post asap. I'll happily do some more if you don't end up with enough. I've found some really quick patterns for crochet squares so they wouldn't take me long!

Martyn does sound better, doesn't he?

Ifonlyitwaseasier (to type your name in full!!) - well done on your lifetime supply of knitting needles, and for nothing, as well! I turned all mine out the other day because they were in a box all muddled up; I found an old tall pasta jar and they are all in there now! Then, of course, I had to find something for all the crochet hooks - they're in an old glass tumbler. It makes it a lot easier to find them now! I'd be really interested in your cunning plan for hats! If it turns out OK, please share!

Well, off to have my lunch then catch up with some more knitting or crochet - don't know which, yet; I have two things on the go! Well, three, if you count the half-crocheted teddy whose face I can't get right!

  • hi all. well he turned up and tried to say that a screw had done the damage. I told him if he could find it I would sign up for the extended cover. There was absolutely no way he was going to find it now was there?? So he produced a selection of parts he'd ordered and proceeded to take my machine apart, I stood and watched! Amazingly ,one of the new parts was missing a vital connection piece so he ended up putting the original part back on! When he came to switch the machine on there was no power, he had dislodged a connector, muppet! Anyhoo, my machine is up and running and I've organised my own cheaper cover for the next 12 months than the 'deal' he was trying to sell me!
Only got a bit of sewing done as I am now catching up on the mountain of towels!!
see y'all later. Love Lainey XX

Hi you busy bees, am I right in thinking that there are enough squares done for Smokie and Smokelets blankets?
Lainy ...... I'm glad you finaly got the last 4 squares I posted. The pics look great, a hidden flair me thinks ;)
I think I will start on some 7" squares for the HTA as I bought a shed load of autumn coloured wool ages ago and because the nearest wool shop is 15 miles away I can't just pop out and get some pastel coloured wool for the babes. Our 2nd Daughter was born at 26 weeks weighing 2lb 2 ozs in old money. My DH found a shop in Somerset called Dolly Care that sold items just the right size for prems, so this project is close to my heart. Our DD2 is now 25yrs and so lucky we are to have her. Well done to all of you angels:A
  • beth, my great nephew was born at exactly the same weight and weeks ! He looked like an action man, it was sooo scary at the time and his mum was only 20 but he's is now a strapping three year old and healthy as a horse! babies are amazing aren't they????
thanks for the comment on the pics , I just point and shoot lol!!

    luv n stuff, Lainey XX

Hi Mioliere, Sorry to make more work for you but I'm on a bit of a roll, or is it an addiction. I have now done another hat. That brings my total up to 4.

Yes, this sight is great and I have now joined the Loving Hands site so I feel I have so many knitting friends when I had thought I was the last Knitter on the planet as not many people knit in my neck of the woods.

I tried to join the Yahoo Wooligan group too but we must have done something wrong. DH had a stong input as I'm a techno duffer. When he can spare the time we'll have another go.

    Bella.
