All the best with this very wonderful idea.
Bella.
Indeed the central collecting address is very important for those of us who cannot make the trip (including me!)
I was thinking that maybe if one of the mini-meeters lives near an Help the Aged charity shop, we could explain our plan to them and ask if we could send the squares there - if we agree to send them all in the same week just before the mini-meet, then the hassle for them would be minimized. And after all it is for their charity...... ??"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Just finished my first knitted square, did it in stocking stitch so it will need pressing and then I will try to post piccie tomorrow, off to start another one in red and then I have found some ginger coloured wool, I take it that we are sticking to the plan for warm colours Kathy?
CATZNINE - that's a gorgeus colour and beautifully knitted! Yes, warm colours definitely - they're all going to look fantastic together!

Hi everyone. KAYPEEL has posted the link to a brilliant site for somewhere to send our squares which will be especially useful to anyone who doesn't drive or have transport to get to any mini-meets that may be arranged. The site has photographs of quilts that have been completed so we would get to see the finished results. I shall be emailing them this afternoon.
MAYTAURUS - has posted some fantastic links to help those who are learning to knit or just want a refresher course in knitting - the internet is a wonderful thing, isn't it, so much information!
I'm so taken aback by all the interest in this idea and the trouble so many of you have taken to knit and crochet and, also, to send helpful information. It's also great seeing the finished squares that have been photographed and posted. It's really encouraging - I'm so glad that knitting and crochet are becoming more popular again anyway and to be able to put our skills to such good use is brilliant.
I hope to start my first square soon!
I will keep everyone informed of progress.
Thanks to you all.

I'm glad this thread has opened again! Help the aged sounds good to me too
I knitted a couple of squares over the weekend, one was too small so I'll keep that lol! I then modified the pattern and made it 8 inches, here's a pic
There are lots of patterned dishcloths on this site, I shall try a few more, but the patterns do need to be changed (I made the garter stitch border bigger) to make them 8 inches.

JELLYBEANS - your square is lovely and a wonderful colour!
ELANTAN - this is a good tutorial for crochet; it's from a site in the Netherlands but with English instructions and has great illustrations of all the different stitches.

Good luck!
Kathy
PS The site has altered since I last looked at it and has even more tips by the looks of it but I haven't had time to study it. I shall save that pleasure for later today! I do hope you can find your way round it!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

hi Kathy and all,
I am not at work today, but when I go in tomorrow I will ask if its ok to have the finished squares sent there, I hope it would be ok to share a business address ? ( it is a chartiy) Perhaps a BG could let us know. Once we have enough we can arrange a meet to get sewing.

Hello all.
I've justed pm'ed MSE Andrea about this but I thought I'd ask you as well. I don't know if anyone has had this thought but if they have, I'm very sorry to butt in.
I hope no one minds me posting this. I don't want to offend or upset so I'm sorry if I do but I want to do something to help. The blanket is a fabulous idea and whoever is the recipient will derive great comfort from it, of that I have no doubt. As again, I'm really struggling to put my thoughts into words that make sense so I'll say it as simply as I can. Would/could the OS'ers knit a blanket for Smoky? I'm sure it's something that would help her in her hour of need.
I am litterally trembling over the enter key at the thought of this causing any upset which is the last thing I would ever want. Please don't think ill of me if I do.
