Awwww they look superb CM, well done you! :T
Glad to see someone else doing crochet too, but I think I need lots more practise to make my squares look as neat as yours lol
PS just noticed your squares have 10 rounds same as Aussies, what size hook and type of wool are you using? Think Aussie said she used size 3.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Thanks Chameleon
I haven't crocheted for years, but was inspired to try again for this. I have bad arthritis in my fingers, but lately they're a lot better. I had to look up in a book how to do granny squares:o :rotfl: Of course as soon as i read it, it all came flooding back. Not that I've ever done 8 inch ones before.
Anyway, I used a 3.5 hook ( because it was the first to come to hand:o ) and fortunately with the Robin DK and my tension, 10 rounds exactly equalled 8 inches. I was very surprised, but very pleased.;)You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Just to add, I've just checked back, and your squares are lovely, Chameleon:T I think you're very clever to follow an American pattern, I always forgot to *up* a stitch about halfway through, and wondered why it went wrong:rotfl:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

I know what you mean CM as I hadn't crocheted since my nan taught me as a child (30+ "cough" years ago lol) so wasn't sure I'd remember how to do it either. I'm sure we only used to do 3"-4" squares, or circles, back then too and trying to follow a pattern then forget it!
I gave myself a challenge this afternoon to follow a proper pattern and I eventually managed it, despite pulling it back a few times where I'd made mistakes :rotfl:
Trying to post a pic of it but none of the free hosting sites are playing ball and allowing me to upload my pic“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Think we x=posted there
I never realised it was an American pattern although I did find it quite easy to follow, but then I've never followed a crochet pattern in my life so that part of it's all new to me. The second one I mentioned above I found much harder and had to keep referring to the photo of the finished product to check I was doing it ok until I figured out what I was supposed to do
ETA: The second pattern one I did was the Friendship Jewel (I did it in lilac inner/purple outer) but I added an extra round to make it into an 8" square as the pattern is for a 7" square“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Having found this thread this afternoon I was inspired and have finished my first crocheted square this evening. I am now going to try for one of the more adventurous ones as mine is a simple granny square. Still yet to read the whole thread. I've just signed up for wooligans yahoo! I used a new profile and e mail just for that so you know who I am and the e mail display won't matter too much, I am sure it shouldn't display that though!
I have enough red wool left for 1 more 8" square for OECS and some brown if more is needed but plenty in other colours for smokey and OECS 7" squares.
Going to settle down with my knitting in front of the fire (it's so cold out there! brr!) after i have walked the pup!
