Wow, Lainey - that truly is amazing! Almost enough for our first blanket! I can't believe how productive you all are! I am frantically trying to get all my chores done today (which was not easy with DH deciding to stay at home this morning making work-related phone calls and holding me up!). I have loads of paperwork to do this morning and then I intend to get as much knitting done as I can! I think my next square had better be Smoky's - I've got some lovely blue wool which I might mix with cream or something.
SARAHPECK - don't you dare apologise for your production having 'slipped'! You've done so many squares I'm seriously impressed and amazed. Thank you so much. Thank you, everyone, for such a fantastic effort. Who would have believed so many squares would have been achieved since this thread started on 15th March?!

I thought I'd post the running totals chart that Jellybeans started the other day, its a great way of keeping track and also will help me put all the names of everyone who contributed to Smokys blanket on a card that I'll send with it when it's finished.

Hi - it's me again! Just posting to ask if you can all do an update on the number of squares you have done and which blanket they are for. Lainey has drawn up a brilliant list - which has saved me the job, thanks! - but we are not sure how accurate it is. We are getting so close to finishing the first blanket and are well on the way to doing Smoky's too which is fantastic.

Edited to update my sig which means, with my three squares added, we have 60 squares for our first blanket! Words fail me!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Wow - this is amazing.
Wish I could knit. Will try to have a go but have always been baffled by it.
Would love to try crochet too - watched the youtube video but her hands moved so fast!!
More pictures please!!!0 -
Lily-Lu - your squares are beautiful, well done!
JANINE22 - MAYTAURUS found a brilliant site with easy to follow videos for learning to knit. Here is the link http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/learn-to-knit. I've just had another look and it is very good, although I would follow instructions for English knitting not Continental which, to me, just looks like a lot of faffing about! I don't know what method the others on here use but I much prefer the English way! Good luck!
Well, LILY-LU - that's 62 squares and we need 63 for our first blanket! We are already doing Smoky's (in colours of own personal choice) so we can carry on with that and, if we are feeling really ambitious, perhaps we can aim for another blanket for charity or the Oxfam have an appeal for 9" squares at the moment. I think some of us might find it difficult to stop now we've started!

Hello everyone
stalled a little on the square front here - but have a general knitting question I wondered if someone could answer?
is stocking stitch where you knit a row and purl a row and garter stitch where you just knit every row????
thanks in advance folksr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
:hello: Hello r.mac!
Yes you are absolutly right, garter stitch is all knit and stocking stitch is 1 row purl, 1 row knit!
well done on learning a new craft!
