moiliere after we have finished the 8" square blanket the rest could go to different places to be sewn up so wont all end up on the same blankets. do we still put that they are from the wooligans? I just woundered how we will keep track of how many blankets we make as a group or are we just counting the first one.

thanks so much for finding all the info out and pulling this together for us.:T

MrsMP - I hadn't thought of that and it's a very good point! I'm not sure what to do about it. I think I'll ask OECS if we can carry on sending in squares just for Wooligan blankets. They might just sew up squares as they come in, regardless of who they're from. I'll see what I can find out and let you know.

I've enjoyed finding out all the information; I've been really pleased that OECS have been so welcoming to us and happy to take our squares. Also, my Mum has found a load more sites that ask for knitted and crocheted donations, including the 'Cuddles' site that was mentioned in the last couple of pages on this thread. There's even one that asks for knitted breasts - to help teach mothers how to breast feed and for prosthetics for mastectomy patients - with a free-to-download pattern. It's amazing what can be done with our skills. Perhaps we should all make breasts, next, a pair each, but heaven knows what we would call ourselves then! I actually think that's a good idea, now! If anyone is interested, here is the link http://www.lcgb.org/. Scroll down the page and you'll find the pattern.

There are lots of other ideas so I shall look at the info my Mum has given me and post it in case others are interested in knitting for different charities.

I have finally started my first square (second attempt, its been a while and isnt tension always fun!!)

I'm using a dusky pink wool i found while I was de-cluttering a cupboard, is that colour ok for the OECS blanket? its a warm colour but not orangy if you know what I mean.

Hi Patches - thanks so much for contributing. As we are using colours from the orange and red range, I'm sure dusky pink will go very well. Tension is great fun! Most of us are finding that 40 stitches over size 8 (4mm) needles gives us 8" in width - about 5 stitches per inch. My first square was a THIRD attempt because I was a bit too ambitious with the pattern!

  • I asked in my local charity shop if they had any wool today- but someone had just been in before me and bought it all lol!

I like the idea of us carrying on knitting after the warm colours square blanket is finished... I like this group as I like seeing what everyone else is doing ;) it makes me want to knit more! It would be nice to be able to keep track of what we have done after the first blanket is finished, how many squares/blankets the group has knitted, and to know where the Wooligan's blankets go!

There seems to be lots of charity knitting projects around- but I shall join in any that the Wooligan's do ;) I found this from Oxfam wanting 250,000 9 inch squares by September for a patchwork against poverty giant baby blanket.

Martyn - you'll be absolutely fine! After all, if us girly girls can do it, it should be a piece of cake for you! It's great that you've got a DVD with the kit - it's so much easier to watch someone knit when you're learning. One word of caution, though - don't get too ambitious; baby steps is how to do it, and don't rush it either. If you have to keep unpicking and starting again, don't worry. We've all done that. I started a square the other night that I had three goes with; the pattern was too complicated and I was too tired. I switched to crochet because it's quicker. And before you ask, master the knitting first then we'll tell you all about crochet! Good luck. One more thing; when you've finished a knitting session, always finish at the end of a row, not in the middle, and always put your needles away safely. It's too easy to leave them on the sofa but also dangerous.

JELLYBEANS - thanks for the link to the Oxfam project. That's going to be one huge blanket! I shall definitely do a 9" square for that - another great cause.

Well, off to do some knitting, then!

moiliere, do you think we will be able to see a photo of our finished blanket?
