Hi all. Have had a long afternoon so not much chance to get back on here. Tomorrow, I'll post the OECS addresses now that MSE Andrea has said it's OK to post them.

Thanks to all those who have posted other charity links for knitting different items - all this is such a good way of using all the leftover wool we knitters seem to acquire. I have loads of baby wool so it will be great to use it on more good causes.

Anyway, I'm off to do some knitting - I've found a dishcloth pattern that looks complicated but only one row out of the four in the pattern is tricky so I hope to get on with that while watching the box!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I am finding that the tension varies quite a lot as I change to another yarn, I have had to undo the last square after about 2 inches as it was coming up at 9 inches wide when with the last wool and the same anount of stitches, it was only just 8 inches! Started again with less stitches and now have the beginnings of a ginger/caramel coloured 8 inch square.:D Oh well practice makes perfect so they say!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

  • I've found the tension varies with different yarns as well. Also I've found that when I come to measure the square again after they've been finished for a few days, the size has changed- I think because the wool has 'relaxed'- not sure what else to call it! The squares get a bit wider, and not as tall- by about 1/4 of a inch... but you can pull and stretch them slightly to make them 8 inch square again so I hope that this is ok.

I'm currently half way through another red square :D

Just a idea... on the referals board I've seen lists of names that people copy and modify when the list changes... could we do the same on here- have a list of everyone's names with the number of squares they've knitted next to each name- and when you finish a square copy the most recent list posted and update your number- may make it easier for adding up the number of squares.
Loving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:

    22 baby hats ; 3 Teddies for Tragedies ; 15 buntings ; 9 boobs ; 2 baby blankets ;
    8 Innocent Smoothie hats ; 2 Scarves ; 4 Adult hats ; 6 Aaron squares ; 12 hedgehogs

JELLYBEANS - that sounds like a good idea; I'm going to have a look at how it works.

Will post addresses for sending the squares a bit later on this morning.

  • Hi Kathy, don't want you spending ages looking for the threads that do it lol (I've seen it in the bingo threads, as I sometimes play bingo whilst knitting ;)) so here is a example of how it would work, from what people on this page have posted:

    8 inch squares for HTA:

    wasbrokegettingbetter: 2
    pigpen: 1
    lainey stardust: 3
    Pippa.S: 2
    mioliere:
    sarahpeck: 11
    jellybeans: 6

    TOTAL:

    squares for Smokey:

    lainey stardust: 3
    sarahpeck: 2
    jellybeans: 2

    TOTAL:

As I said this is just a example I quickly did from looking at posts on this page(don't want to offend anyone whose name I haven't put on the list).

How it would work is that everyone who completed a square would copy and paste the list, updating it with their name and number of squares finished as they went along.

We may want to do for any 7 inch squares as well? I know I shall carry on knitting them :D

OH JELLYBEANS - you're a star for doing that! That makes it so much easier. I'll definitely copy and paste - what a good idea.

Will get back with addresses for OECS later so watch this space, everyone!

Once again, JELLYBEANS, thanks for doing that!

    Hi everyone

Re: addresses for sending our squares.

I have several addresses for various regions of the UK but, as we want all our 8 x 8" squares to be sewn into one complete blanket, we need to send them all to the same address. The lady I have been corresponding with on OECS knows all about us as a group so I think we should send our squares to her:

    Flat 2 Beechwood
    53 Copers Cope Road
    Beckenham
    Kent
    BR3 1NJ.

I think we should also enclose a note saying that they are specifically 8 x 8" squares knitted and crocheted by The Wooligans, a forum group on MSE.

For anyone who wants to carry on, OECS would like 7 x 7" squares, knitted, crocheted, cross-stitched or quilted, addressed to one of the addresses below and, for the Kent area, to the address given above.

    HERTS AND BEDS AREA:

    14 St Andrew's Way
    Langford
    Biggleswade
    Beds
    SG18 9QL

    SHREWSBURY AREA:

    6 Westminster Close
    Shrewsbury
    SY1 2DA

    SOUTH WALES AREA:

    4 Eva Street
    Mountain Ash
    South Wales
    CF45 3LF

    SOUTH WEST BATH AREA:

For small items that will fit through letterbox:

    11 Robin Close
    MNidsomer Norton
    Radstock
    BA3 4NJ

    For bulky items:

    B. Dark
    Norton Electrical Wholesale
    Unit B, First Avenue
    Westfield Industrial Estate
    Midsomer Norton
    Radstock
    BA3 4BS

Just pick an address closest to you. Please address the packages to Squares for Charity; I don't feel comfortable putting down the individual names of the people at these addresses.

Thanks to you all for your efforts so far. I still can't quite believe the response this idea has had.; it sounds as if you are all enjoying the challenge - I know I am!
