Hi all. I'm not sure about SMOKY's blanket and the number of squares we can each do. I'll have to count up how many of us are knitting for it. I'll see if I can start counting the numbers so far.
I probably won't be able to log on tonight because I am babysitting (and yes, I'm taking my knitting with me!) but I will be sure to catch up with you first thing in the morning.
JELLYBEANS - you've given great advice to R.MAC! She'll be a first class knitter in no time.
Thanks to everyone for your fantastic efforts so far!

Just back from work and have hopped on while dinners cooking. Looks like everyone is doing really well. I'm really enjoying doing my bit.
I took a little trip to the charity shop in my lunch break today as I only have enough wool in warm colours for 1 more square. Had a really good result too. There was no wool on show so I asked and the assistant and she said they didn't have any. I explained that anything would do as I was helping to knit squares for a charity blanket. She popped out back and came back with the manageress and a huge binliner full of wool!! She told me to pick out what I wanted and she would give me a good price and she did, bargain!
Guess what I'm doing tonight? Got new needles too and they are new in the packet, 20p well spent on those.
If I don't nod off knitting I'll be back later.Wooligans squares so far - 15 x 8"Posted

SARAHPECK - you did really well in the charity shop, didn't you?
Well, I gave up on the so-called 'easy' knitting pattern I had started and have just crocheted my first square (I know, I feel ashamed because some of you have already done loads more) and have printed off some dishcloth patterns which look easier to do so I will start one off tonight while I'm babysitting.

sarahpeck wow what a great deal from the charity shop:D0 -
I've just finished a 2nd square for smokey in a bluey/purply wool. Have now started on another square for OEC in a ginger colour wool. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

People keep mentioning dishcloth patterns. you wouldn't really do your dishes with these would you? They're so pretty!
Dropped into John Lewis whilst in town today so picked up a new ball of pinky-purply-grapey coloured wool and a ball of white to finish the first square with. In the meantime I have rediscovered a blanket that I tried to do last year (another abortive attempt at crochet) and so have re-started that. I'd like to do one for Smoky too.
Am going to be inundated with blanket squares soon! I've found my Mum's old crochet stitch book though and its nice and easy to follow, so now there is no stopping me!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0
