Is that right.. we are doing the 8inch squares for smokey then 7 inch ones for the oldies blankies??
My nails are about 3/4inch too long to do too many and my arthritis is hurting due to the cold..
I may attempt crochet again.. but I just get irate with it cos I can't do it!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

hi all,
Mioliere, honestly,it's no trouble to do this for Smoky, I wouldn't offer if I didn't think I could do it, I'm quite handy with most things but will happily takes suggestions as to what colour to sew up with once we have all the squares in.(although crochet evades me for some reason. It's something Ive promised myself to learn this year), thanks for the thought tho.
It sounds as though we'll have all the squares we need in no time at all so if folk want to PM me for my address and start sending them in, I can get some pics up to display everyones hard work and we can decide on a co-ordinating colour for sewing up etc.
I'm trying to knit square 3 but can't knit for laughing at the Top Gear Ground Force Crew destroying Steve Redgraves garden, priceless!!!.:rotfl:
Jamtart, keep trying chuck, my gran taught me as achild but I didn't take knitting up seriously until I was 22 and expecting my daughter, now 20. your mates will be really jealous when they see you swanning around in your lovely, original and unique hand knitted gear;)doing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j

thanks lainey! I'm determined. My OH's grannie is a good knitter, so I will go and pester her to see where I am going wrong! I think i have poor quality wool (a shoddy workman blames her tools!)
can i ask (being new to OS) who is smokey? perhaps her blanket would like a holey square from me too?

Well, I finally have one 8" square for the blanket completed (thanks to Claire for her help). Next few days are looking a bit busy, but I'll try to find time to get another one done before the weekend0

morning all, well it doesn't look as though I'm going to work today! I think I've got what I can only describe as a 'stomach bug' and that's putting it nicely! three of my colleagues were off with it last week and I thought I'd got away with it until 4am when I woke up with a horrible griping pain and the rest is history........ I'm sitting here in my dressing gown when I should be on the bus to work! Work is a 15 mile , 1&1/2 hour bus ride away and theres no way I could get there with my dignity intact at this moment in time:eek: .I'll have to ring in about 9ish and explain,(I don't like being ill or off work, I'm one of those lucky folk who love their job)
but on the upside I might be able to get a couple more squares done so there's a silver lining to most things lol!!
catch up with you all later ...I feel another 'visit' comin on:odoing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j

ah lainey - sorry to hear your not feelign well chick. - hope your feeling better soon - :grouphug:
still knitting - off to get bits today so will have an atempt laterTime to find me again0 -
Oh, LAINEY - I do hope you feel better soon, you poor thing. Keep drinking plenty of fluids.
JAMTART - well done for perservering. You are so right about knitting being therapeutic. Smoky is one of our regulars on the OS Daily thread and tragically, her DH died last week having been very ill for some time. She is a only a young mum. BENTHOSBOY, another regular, suggested we make a blanket for her which is such a good idea. We are using our own favourite colours just to make it even more personal so there's no actual colour theme.
PIGPEN - The first blanket for the oldies is in 8 x 8s but the organisation who will do the sewing up (OECS) usually do 7 x 7s. I told them we are doing 8s and they kindly said they will take them - we will need to label the packets we send them in just to make it easier for them to identify them. It seems that many people on here want to carry on making squares so, once our first blanket is done, we will do 7s. OECS also take cross stitched and quilted squares so, if any of you are good at either of those, or want to have a go, then all squares would be welcomed. Like you, PIGPEN, my nails are too long at the moment, for knitting and typing! I must cut them - thing is, they grow very fast! I hope knitting doesn't make your arthritis worse. I have tendonitis in my hands and they hurt sometimes when I'm knitting but I don't want to not be able to knit or crochet - I couldn't stand it. When I was working almost full-time hours, I had to stop knitting because my hands hurt so much and, now I work from home, I'm really enjoying it again!
Anyway, latest count - if I have got it right - is 34!!!! Well done, you Wooligans!!
Kathy

hi jamtart, smokey is a lady who sadly lost her husband a week or so ago and it was suggested that the MSE knitters could make her a blanket to show their thoughts and support. I have to be honest and say that I hadn't heard about her until I read this thread but once I'd looked at her posts I just felt that I wanted to get involved.doing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j
