  • by the way, I could sew up Smoky's blanket if everyone wanted to send me the squares. I could then send it on to her or a moderator to send on to her , whichever method works best....... let me know what you think folks:o

Oh, wow, LAINEY - what a lovely offer. That would be fantastic. Everyone, please let us know what you think.

LAINEY - red wool is fine - we're using all shades of reds, oranges, fudges, coffees, rusts - well, natural autumny colours so red will be great.

I have almost finished my FIRST square so the rest of you have put me to shame. I started what I thought was a simple pattern; it's only four rows to the pattern and two of them are plain knit, but it's so easy to go wrong especially when you keep dozing off! I have started it twice because I'm determined it won't beat me - I'm really pleased with the texture the pattern makes so it will be worth it. The next one I shall probably do in garter stitch and I also want to crochet a couple as well. Crochet is a lot quicker than knitting and I feel as if I need to make up for lost time now!

I still haven't done the latest count - I will try and do that some time this morning and get back to you all so we know how far we've got.

Hope you are all enjoying the bank holiday.

I thought I had knitted a square for smokey but it measured 8 inches by 7 inches so have started a new one with about 46 stitches - that will probbly turn out to be too big!

I don't think anyone mentioned colours as such.

I am doing blue if that helps at all!

Hi everyone. Re: Squares for Smoky's blanket - I think we should all choose our own favourite colours for the squares, not one particular colour theme as we're doing for Help the Aged. If we choose our favourite colours it will feel as if we have made a truly personal connection with Smoky and stitched a part of ourselves into the blanket; I am sure it will be such a comfort to her. It will probably look amazing - truly technicoloured!

Off to do a square count now!

Just getting all inspired by my crochet hook and so far my experiment has turned into this:

    100_0871.jpg

Both the cats are fast asleep, so I'm going as fast as I can before one of the little darlings attacks my wool again! I did try keeping it in a bag, but anyone who has tried to separate a pair of fighting cats inside a 'bag for life' will understand the horror!

It's less that 8x8 so I'll edge it with some red/brown/pink whatever I can find in the wool shop when it re-opens so that it fits with the colour scheme

I started this thread on 15th March and, in less than 10 days, if I've counted correctly, we have 28 squares completed already which I think is phenomenal and I'm so impressed! It's amazing to think that, through the wonder of the internet and the goodwill of all you lovely people, while we sit in our own homes scattered right across the UK (indeed, the world because I'm sure AUSSIELASS is making a square) we are all creating individual things that will be joined together to make one thing. I think it's mindblowing, actually.

    C!LAIRE - that's looking fantastic!

Well, I'd better get on with mine!

    Count me in!!! :j :j :j

I've not crocheted or knitted since gran taught me as a child but I'm sure I could easily pick it up again. Will ask on freecycle for wool donations and pop down the haberdashery shop tomorrow to see what supplies I can snaffle.

Depending what wool supplies (and colours) I can manage to pick up along the way I hope to be able to contribute to all 3 causes currently on the go :T
