Hi all! I have just counted 16 completed squares on here! That's a briliant start but I'm ashamed to say I have only started my first one, not yet completed it. I intend to get it finished tonight.

MARGARET54 - Welcome to you; glad you have joined us.

I can't believe this thread is now 9 pages long and has been viewed over 3,500 times! I would never have dreamed there would be such interest! WOOLIGANS ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE!

Well, it's blowing a gale outside so what better way to spend an afternoon than in the warm knitting to help others keep warm next winter?

I started my square this morning using some wool salvaged from some crochet squares (v.little ones) that I made whilst my mother was (re-)teaching me how to crochet last year. You'd think that 4 3"x3" ish squares would make one 8"x8" square, but not so :(

Here's what i've got so far (about 6"x6") and that is the last of the wool attached to it. Shame it is so grim outside.

Thanks to PP for her earlier photo as I needed it to remind myself exactly what I was doing to start with!

Thanks Pigpen. If my life depended on it I'm afraid I couldn't knit a stitch, though this has been brilliant practice for getting back into the rhythm of crochet! Two pointy sticks are definitely more than I can manage!

I've done 2 squares & have just started a 3rd, in a sort of caramel colour. BUT, I'm now banned from Motocross racing, as some of you will know my hubby is partially sighted & cannot drive, therefor when he wants to watch his nephew racing I have to drive him there, I don't mind but as it was so cold today I took my crochet & decided to stay in the car. After a while I realised I hadn't got a tape measure with me. I didn't want the square to be too big or too small, so I went down to the race circuit to ask if anybody had anything that was 8 inches long that I could check my square against. It caused great hilarity. but they have asked me not to go back again, I can't think why, lol.

I would love to help but at the moment I am knitting for the Linus Project. I am a granny as well, and last year knitted 14 blankets for them. Since my mastectomy I have slowed down a bit, so can only knit when my arm doesn't ache, but good luck to all who have a go.Our little band of ladies knited over 80 blankets last year for this charity. It's amazing what a little thing like knitting a square for fun can grow into.

Hi Jackie, Well done you and your ladies for all your Linus blankets:A

I am collecting the materials for my Linus pledge to do this year, but it will be a patchwork quilt. My youngest sister started me on this when my middle sister died suddenly a while ago. I will start when I have a suitable backing it must be smooth and soft, I have collected most of the fabric, animal prints, bright colours, balloon prints, teddy bears, dolls and anything suitable for a child.
