Ive been looking for a new hobby to take up although at just 23 i think my boyfriend will get a bit funny about me sat knitting in the evenings but hey ho
It's an excellent hobby. I can knit and crochet, and made my first crochet blanket and the age of 12, which I gave to my gran.
That blanket followed my gran when she moved into sheltered housing and it was on her bed when she died. We then donated it to the hospice where she went for respite care (it was nearly 20 years old by then, but was as good as new).
When my friend's son died, I picked up my knitting needles, and made a scarf as I just felt the need to create something. A year later, when I look at my scarf I can think of our boy and smile a little, there are so many thoughts of him in it (and a few tears too).
I will go and inspect the wool store upstairs later. I would definitely like to do a square for Smoky's blanket (thanks Martyn for the suggestion).0 -
Hi
Have been away from boards for too long. Have just been catching up with threads on OS.
Love this idea of knitting squares, there's a limit to how many knitted clothes DDS & DGC can cope with!! What a brilliant name Wooligans is
I would love to join in but have one query.I think the best thing to do would be to send our 8 x 8s in the colours we have decided (the warm firey colours) and then, if anyone wants to carry on once we have reached the 63 squares needed for one blanket, we can start making 7 x 7s because they are standard for the group. I'm sure a lot of us will want to carry on anyway. When sending 8 x 8s we need to label the packages with the size to make it easy for those sewing them up to identify them.
Sorry if this has already bee answered and I've missed it.

Hi Wooligans!
Would everyone put their squares-so-far in their sig, please? We need to know when we have reached 63 squares! Perhaps we could keep a running total?
I have finished the project I was knitting - an Easter present for a DGD who doesn't like chocolate (did you ever hear of such a thing?!) so I will start my first square tonight.
I'm so sorry that whenever I recommend needles I forget to put them in mms as well as 'old' sizes, i.e. size 8 being 4 mms. I will try and remember in future.

Wooligans...liking it!! My first square is nearly done..after ahem undoing it twice because it kept coming up too big. Shall move on to one after that for Smokey. Am using dk fluffy wool in a bid to disguise my not so lovely garter stitch:rotfl::rotfl:
Anyone got a smillie we can use for knitting/crochet?!!

Yes, my 3 year old ds doesn't like sweets or chocolate either. I'm so glad that there's someone else out there who doesn't.0 -
