    hello everyone

I finished my square last night. I have to say I can finish off the sqaure very neatly - much more neatly than casting on!!!!

I did the whole thing in regular knitting stich - but this next one is going to be knit a row then purl a row - I am progressing!!!

also going to try the alternative way to cast on shown on teh online video to see if that's easier/neater.

oh - and i went from 40 stiches to 42 stiches (thanks aussie ;) ) and finished with 42 - wher eon earth did i find 4 extra stiches from

R.MAC - it's quite easy to end up with extra stitches when you're learning so don't worry too much about it. Well done for perservering with it. If you have cast off well, then you are a born knitter, just late realising it! When you feel really confident - and you will, I promise - you'll be longing to try other things. Meanwhile, doing the squares is brilliant practice.

I would love to help but at the moment I am knitting for the Linus Project. I am a granny as well, and last year knitted 14 blankets for them. Since my mastectomy I have slowed down a bit, so can only knit when my arm doesn't ache, but good luck to all who have a go.Our little band of ladies knited over 80 blankets last year for this charity. It's amazing what a little thing like knitting a square for fun can grow into.

Hi everyone, can I join in as well. Not sure that there'll be a knitting mini meet here in NI - but maybe we can arrange something for the Smoky blanket - but I can do the winter, fiery colours. You did say fudges and caramels as well didn't you, Mioliere?

I need to get back into the habit of knitting in the evenings and these will be perfect to ease me back in.

Wow! I love this idea! What a great find for my first visit to the OS board.

I have really got into knitting recently for the first time since being a kid. I will have to get myself some good 'firey' wool now and some needles the right size!

    Count me in.:D

Hi JACKIEO - great to see you posting! Hope you are recovering well? Wow, 14 blankets - that's fantastic, well done to you and your little band of ladies. That's a geat cause, too.

THRIFTMONSTER - yes, fudges, caramels, toffee, that lovely Galaxy colour - now you've got me thinking about chocolate! I've just bought a ball of what I can only describe as chestnut!

    Well done, M.E!

MILLIE - I'm glad you found us!

I have asked about posting OECS addresses on the thread but might not hear until Monday/Tuesday but I promise I'll let you know where to send the squares as soon as I know.

With Smoky's blanket - I know we all want to contribute but it would be next to impossible to have one big centralised meet to do the sewing up so, unless we make a blanket per region with a meet in that region to sew it up, we'll have to see how her blanket can be put together. REDRUBY - perhaps if your boss is agreeable, we could send the squares to your workplace as you suggested? If not, I'm sure we'll find a way. After all, one of our mottoes is surely 'Where there's a Wooligan, There's a Way'!!

Once again, thanks for all the interest and enthusiasm for this - it has taken my breath away!
