  • Hi everyone

While strictly speaking we normally ask site users not to exchange personal details, just out of concern for everyones' safety, if you could pick a central charity that the squares could go to then feel free to use this thread to "rally the troops" so-to-speak

HI everyone. I'm glad to see the thread has re-opened. Many thanks to MSE Andrea and the team!

We had more or less decided on Help the Aged as the charity for our blanket but would prefer that that was a joint decision and not just mine, so please feel free to make any suggestions - especially as we may end up with squares for more than one blanket.

As regards sewing the squares together, I, and others, are working on a solution to this because we cannot exchange personal details to enable squares to be posted to me and I think it would be a lot to expect a charity to suddenly, without asking or being asked, be expected to sew a load of unsolicited squares together. One suggestion has been a mini-meet at a neutral base where they could be sewn together while we get to know each other, which I think is a fantastic idea.

I will keep everyone informed of progress and, if you are happy with Help the Aged being our nominated charity, please post on here with your agreement or other suggestions.

Kathy I think that sewing them up at a mini meet is a great idea, would be fun to meet everyone who could get along and also much fairer than expecting you to do all the sewing. As you already know I am all for Help the Aged being the charity we support bearing in mind the high fuel costs for heating and some old folks may have to chose between food or heat!

My size 8's (4mms) are poised (sp?) and ready! :D

i dont know about the costs involved, but an alternative to one/some of you having to disclose your address might be to look into the costs involved in hiring a PO box? that way squares, could be collected 'centrally' and then brought to the stitch 'em up meet?

  • Hey,
I`m just throwing my name in for a square or two. I have some odds and ends of wool that is just begging to be used up, so this idea is perfect.
I like the idea of Help the Aged sounds good.

    kind regards

Couldn't wait to get going!:j I have just cast on 40 stitches in a lovely christmas red dk on size 4mm needles and after a few rows of stocking stitch it is measuring 8" across with my tension. This will vary for everyone according to pattern, wool etc but I thought it might be a good guide.

    Good luck everyone!
