    Hi Kathy,
Can you update me with 1 SCARF please.

I knitted one on the way down in pink and DGD1 said I love pink its my favourite colour, so I let her have it, then DGD2 said pinks my favourite as well, so there I was for the rest of Saturday knitting another pink scarf, with a little help from DGD2, who held the wool and unwound so much it got in a tangle and took ages to unravel. They loved them though and had to have a picture taken wearing them for the 2 old nans(thats my mum and OH's mum)
I had a lovely time, but its such a wrench to leave them every time.

Better go we are off out in a bit.

Hi Pippa - I loved the fact that you were able to knit scarves for your DGDs while you were visiting them. They will treasure them, I'm sure, because something knitted is such a personal thing. I shall update a little later on today.

I am back at work tomorrow and Friday, then all next week apart from Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, and the Thurday and Friday of the following week. It's confusing, I know! I'm covering for a member of staff who is going on holiday. I will check in each work day and update but don't think I'll get much knitting done during that time, sadly. A dental surgery is not the place to take wool for knitting baby items! I have nearly finished another bunting, though, so will add that when I update because I should finish it this afternoon.

  • Hi everyone! I've finally got round to adding a couple of pictures to the Wooligans site and I'll add some more as I get round to it. It was much easier than I thought it would be!

I'm posting now to ask for a bit of advice on teddy bears' arms :) I've just finished the body of a ted for tragedy but I've got a bit stuck with the arms. Basically, do I pick up the stitches for the arms by 'knitting into' the stitches a few stitches into the body, ie by putting the needle through the existing loops and treating this as a 'stitch', or should I pick up stitches along the edge of the body? (Sorry if this sounds stupid, I'm fine with basic knitting but anything a bit complex floors me lol) Then, when I'm knitting the arms, I'm assuming I'll end up with an arm 'flap' that I sew up along the paw and the sleeve, rather than a 'tube'? This'll probably be really obvious when I get started but any advice is welcome!

Hi Gingernutmeg - just pick up the stitches at the edge of the main body piece once the head bit has been sewn up. Although it doesn't feel right when you are picking up the stitches this way, it will work out. You are right - you will end up with a flap that will just need to be folded in half and sewn up; the folded bit will be the top of the arm. I hope this explains it! The teddy is a very satisfying thing to make so good luck with it! I'll have a look at your photos in a minute!

Here is the update I should have done yesterday!

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats for Sainsbury's, the closing date for which was 17th October 2008 by which time they had received over 500,000 hats - that's more than 100,000 more than last year. As each one raises 50p that's over £250,000 raised for Age Concern! Our hats on here will raise £224 so please give yourselves a huge pat on the back! The hats will go on sale, each on a bottle of Innocent Smoothie, in Sainsbury's on 5th November - I wonder if any of us will recognise a hat we've made in our local branch?!

Great photos and lovely hats, Gingernutmeg. Well done! Your 130 hats will raise £65 for Age Concern which is a fantastic sum!

Hi Kathy, can you update me with 1 PREEMIE CARDI and 1 SCARF please.
How are you feeling, not too tired I hope :D

I have printed the pattern off for the seafarers hat and muffler, and will start on the hat soon, the muffler takes 8ozs wool, do you have any idea how much that is in grammes? It also says its knitted in plain, I take that to mean garter stitch am I right.

Hi Pippa - I'll update tomorrow. I am tired! It's been a long two days which has felt like a whole week! Going by my kitchen scales, 8ozs is 210 grammes; by 'plain' I would take that to mean garter stitch. I will be trying to knit something tonight. Last night I knitted two rows (only 30sts wide) and promptly dozed off - definitely an age thing!

Anyway, I hope to be refreshed by the morning so will update then.

    Hope you are well.

Hi Shazrobo - thanks for the update; I'll add it later. How lovely for your bf that you are able to knit for him. I know my DH and sons love hand-knitted hats and scarves and they need it on these wintry days.
