Thanks Pippa and Shazrobo for coming up with patterns for sailors' hats so quickly! I shall print the easier one off to make!

Have a lovely time with your DGDs, Pippa, I know how much you enjoy spending time with them. Knitting on the way there and on the way back will help the journey to go more quickly. I haven't drunk my Innocent Smoothie yet - I've not tried them before but will probably buy another one at the weekend and give one to DGS and one to DGD.

Shezmit - thanks for the update. I'm getting together a parcel for you and I know my Mum has a collection of things she'll be sending to you shortly.

I'll update a little later on.

Hi Ladies - many thanks for your replies - you really are a great bunch!! Ive made a note of the corner to corner blanket - I found a slightly different one (it has a hole effect around edge)

    Size 11 - 8mm Needles
Cast on 5 stitches - knit 1 row
Next Row - Knit 3, yarn over, knit 2
Next Row - Knit 3, yarn over, knit 3
Next Row - Knit 3, yarn over, knit to end
Repeat last row until there are 126 stitches on needle
Next decrease row - Knit 2, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to end
Repeat last row until there are 7 stitches on needle
Next decrease - Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, knit to end
    Bind off remaining 5 stitches

Well ladies you are going to laugh - after a frantic text to my Mum about "yarn over" I sat down and thought "No this will never work" and GUESS WHAT - IM SOOOO excited I have developing a blanket - corner to corner with a holey pattern around the outside I had a strop on when OH said it was time for bed and couldnt wait for son to go to school today as Im off to knit - the washing can wait.........
I sound so very sad dont I - I just didnt think I could actually accomplish anything more than a square !!!
And yes Anne - it is very addictive !!!!!
So thanks ladies for all your help (as ever you are all great) - have noted down the hat pattern and just like the blanket I have looked at it thought "eeeeek" but will have a go after the blanket (I have seen some wool in my local charity shop - it is new but I like to buy from there as its helping another cause isnt it and also you cant buy wool anywhere else in my town) which would just suit a hat

So off a knitting I go will keep you posted - many thanks - love Jaqui xx

Hi Jaqui - it's great when you realise that knitting patterns aren't that difficult, isn't it? You'll be surprised by how ambitious you become. It IS very addictive - the washing will always be there, knitting something new is far more satisfying! You're not sad - we would all rather knit than do housework.

Thanks for your blanket pattern, too. It sounds lovely.

  • Mioliere, Hi:hello:

I'm afraid I have been held up with the knitting for far too long due to a new baby expected in the family.

I think I am back on course now and have just parcelled up 8 preemie hats for Loving Hands, so that brings my total up 17.

I hope to be back in production in the future. I see there are some 4 ply hats on the Loving Hands site and am pleased because I have just about used up all my odds and ends of DK but have quite a bit of 4 ply.

Many thanks for all the hard work and dedication you have given to this project.

    Bella.

  • Morning all,

I am glad that it was ok for me to post about Bonnie Babies on here, thank you so much for adding them to your list of charities you knit for!! I forgot to say that the site has a really friendly forum where you can see all the items they make and the hospitals they send them too. If anyone is any good at sewing I just know your skills will be very useful to them! The site is www.bonniebabies.co.uk. Thank you so much.

    Love purplegirl

Hi Bella - good to hear from you. If they baby has been born, congratulations! I'll add your hats when I update a bit later on today.

Purplegirl - I looked at the lovely photos yesterday. The knitted items are beautifully displayed - it really is a lovely site. I would offer my sewing if it extended beyond mending things and sewing on buttons! I shall tell my Mum, though; her sewing is fantastic. She's not online but joins in our group through me.

I hope everyone is getting the same lovely weather we have here in sunny Hampshire - it really is a beautiful day; blue sky, bright sun, not too cold and hardly any clouds, BUT the forecast doesn't promise that it will last!

Thats very kind of you. I am not any good at knitting or sewing (yet!) but I help as much as I can. Anyone who can offer their help would be greatly apprecaited.:T
  • Thanks mioliere, the baby expected by a family member is due in December and we don't know what it is so I have been busy doing boy/girl options. I just have one or two things to finish off and then I'm ready.

I have posted the hats off today and while I was out just fell for a ball of yellow DK, not the idea really as I am supposed to be using up my stash, but there we are.

We have had the lovely sunshine too. Doesn't it make one feel better? It really gave me that get up and go feeling back and I've achieved loads.

Hi all - didn't get a chance to come on here yesterday so hope everyone is well. I have had a few visitors over the weekend so have not managed to get much knitting done apart from one bunting that I hope to add a few more things to this week.

I am covering for someone in my old job on Thursday and Friday of this week, all next week and the Thurs and Fri of the following week, from 8am to 5.30pm. I'm not looking forward to it TBH because it means I won't get much knitting done and I shall be even more tired in the evenings. I will come on here every evening and update, though.

    Anyway, here's the latest update:

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats for Sainsbury's, the closing date for which was 17th October 2008 by which time they had received over 500,000 hats - that's more than 100,000 more than last year. As each one raises 50p that's over £250,000 raised for Age Concern! Our hats on here will raise £224 so please give yourselves a huge pat on the back! The hats will go on sale, each on a bottle of Innocent Smoothie, in Sainsbury's on 5th November - I wonder if any of us will recognise a hat we've made in our local branch?!
