Good morning everyone - woke up early so here I am!

Maytaurus - thank you so much for your last two posts - as usual you are a fount of information so thank you very much for sharing it with us. I shall print both posts off. The information on baby sizes is great and the patterns will be very useful for those of us with 4-ply to use up. Once again, many thanks for taking the time to keep us informed.

    Here is the latest update

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats for Sainsbury's, the closing date for which was 17th October 2008 by which time they had received over 500,000 hats - that's more than 100,000 more than last year. As each one raises 50p that's over £250,000 raised for Age Concern! Our hats on here will raise £224 so please give yourselves a huge pat on the back! The hats will go on sale, each on a bottle of Innocent Smoothie, in Sainsbury's on 5th November - I wonder if any of us will recognise a hat we've made in our local branch?!

    Hi Kathy
Can you update me with 1 bunting and 1 Scarf please.

I am going to start a sailors hat this afternoon, from a pattern I found amongst Mums stuff when we were clearing out a couple of weeks ago, she said she didnt want all her knitting stuff any more so I have it.

Some of the extra needles I took down to the charity shop, they said people are always asking for needles, yarn, patterns and anything to do with knitting.

Hey knitters! Found a great appeal! I'm going to knit a scarf or two for shoeboxes for families in romania
and fill the rest of the box up with none knitted items.

More info and MSE chat in this thread in the special occasion forums.

    Hope you're all OK!

PS thanks for totalling how much we've raised for IS that's great!! But don't forget the hats raise loads of awareness about the elderly and you can't put a price on that

    Hi all.

Pippa - yes, I did get your pm! I meant to reply to thank you for it but I haven't logged on much this weekend, apart from to check this thread! I'll update with your latest items a bit later on today. One of our charity shops had been given bags and bags of knitting needles last week; can you picture lots of women kneeling on the floor going through them?! I've been trying to replace my stainless steel needles with wooden ones because my Mum says they are so much more comfortable to use; they're very expensive to buy new. I managed to find a few pairs (40p per pair) which are very long but DH said he'll cut them down for me.

Ianna - thanks for the link to the shoebox appeal. The info on the other thread you linked to is really useful because there's a list of other things you can send besides knitted items (post number 5). I've always got loads of packets of felt-tips, crayons, colouring books, playing cards and so on because I pick them up when I find them reduced and they come in handy when the grandchildren visit. Do you know if there's a closing date for the appeal? It sounds like a great idea.

I have only managed to make one more pair of bootees this weekend but hope to get a lot more done this week.

Will call in again later to update.

  • Hi, just wanted to say that I DID get a card after all lol. It arrived at the new address when I wasn't there and OH put in a box to keep it safe ... I found it this weekend when I was sorting out the bedding ... Typical OH lol, thank heavens it wasn't a bill! I think it's really nice of Innocent to send out the cards, it's great to know that your efforts are appreciated!

Gingernutmeg - I'm so glad you did get a card! I haven't had one yet but I haven't given up hope! They must be very busy distributing the hats because they go on sale tomorrow.

To everyone - I shall update later; I've woken up a bit late this morning and need to be out early but I promise I will update later on.
