Hi everyone. I haven't updated for a while because I couldn't get my line-spacing to work. However, the lovely Troo on the OS Daily has solved the problem for me so I can update properly now!
The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats for Sainsbury's campaign for which the closing date is 17th October!

Hi knitters!
I'd really like to have a go at one of the teddies for tragedies, can anyone tell me what sort of difficulty rating they are? Are they beginner, intermediate or advanced level?
Also does anyone know if we'll get confirmation that our innocent hats got there OK? I have no faith in royal mail.
Hope you're all well!0 -
Hi Ianna - the teddies are really easy either to knit or crochet. The whole teddy is made in one piece once you've made the first leg. When it's all been knitted you just fold the piece in half and all the bits match up. It's a very clever but simple pattern. Do have a go and, if you get stuck, post on here - lots of us have made them so there will always be someone to help!
As for the Innocent Smoothie hats, I know two people on here have received cards thanking them and my Mum has also had a card. I sent mine off about two weeks ago and haven't heard back yet. They are probably very busy distributing the hats now that the closing date has passed. I shall leave it for another two weeks and then write and ask them. I know the postal service is not as good as it used to be and it's easy to lose faith in it. Did you put your address on the back? I always do that so that hopefully, if a parcel doesn't get to it's destination, the Royal Mail will post it back to me.
Good luck with the teddy - it's a lovely thing to make and for such a great cause.

Message on the Innocent Smoothies newsletter:
Hat’s amazing
501,423 hats to be precise. Thanks to you and your needles, we’ve hit our target of 500,000 hats for this year’s Big Knit campaign which is brilliant news. As you read this, hats like this are being popped onto our little bottles, ready to go on shelf and things are looking good to raise £250,000 for Age Concern. There’s less than a week to go till your woolly creations hit the shelves in every single Sainsbury’s store across the land, so for now, massive thanks and back pats all round to everyone who knitted us a hat.
Well done everybody!
I sent off hats last year and got a thank you card about a month after the closing date.0 -
Seakay - thank you so much for your post. The final total is phenomenal, isn't it? Over 500,000 - I can hardly believe it! And every one worth 50p for Age Concern. Long may this campaign continue. It's a lot of fun for us knitters, the hats knit up quickly and are ideal for using up scraps of wool. I'm looking forward to knitting more next year.
I've crocheted a pair of bootees that took just half an hour for the pair. I want to make some mittens and a hat to match and may use them for the Chris Evans's baby challenge. I shan't update until there's more things to add.
Hope everyone is well and that half-term is not being too hectic! My two are grown up now but I remember the school holidays as if they were yesterday.

I haven't heard about the smoothie hats either, and I sent the first 100-odd off at the end of August. I'm hoping they got there, as I don't trust the post either ...
I've just started a teddy tonight, hopefully it'll be ok so I'll let you know when he's (it's definitely a he, this one, he's got blue trousers on) ready!

Gingernutmeg - that does seem to be a long time ago. Perhaps those on here who have had a 'thank you' card from Innocent could let us know how long it took for it to arrive after they had posted their hats? I only sent mine off the week before the closing date and they're probably at their busiest now so I'm not banking on getting a card for a while but it's almost two months since you sent yours.
I've just found this for contact details - perhaps you could email them?

I do hope they got there - your total is worth £65 to Age Concern and that's a lot of money!
