Hi im a newbie to money saving expert and seem to be spending my life on here - well it beats spending money ha ha
anyway i came across your thread - i did knit some squares in the winter for cat blankets for Woodgreen Animal Shelter - I have to say i cant sew them together (hmmm) so my friends mum did that - i was looking at my wool only the other day and thinking must do some more but while it has been err dare i say reasonable weather - lighter evenings etc i havent done any - this would give me a good reason to use up wool - so are you still accepting squares as per the very first thread or could you give me address of where best place just to send squares to - i really only can do squares am not experienced knitter ha ha
Look forward to hearing from you and keep up the good work ladies xx

Hi f1widow and welcome to you! We are still sending squares to OECS - there are several addresses for them in the very first post; they sew them together, too! The squares (7") are always welcome by them.

Should you feel more adventurous then there are lots of patterns for baby things that are desperately needed here www.lovinghands.org.uk - feel free to join them. Most of us have and they have a very active forum. Also, join us on here on our Yahoo group, Wooligans, http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Wooligan/where you can see photos of the items we have been making.

Since my last post I've made another innocent smoothie hat (with stripes!) and a Save the Children hat too. Now I need to work on my technique for a bit as I'm holding the needles in entirely the wrong way and I know it'll never work if I try to make anything bigger.

Hi Soozy you are doing so well, and the technique will come, the more you knit the better you will get, and confidence grows, and then goodness knows what you will be knitting by this time next year :D

    Hi everyone.

Pippa - thanks for your concern; I'm still here but got absorbed giving the garden a good tidy up and then we had a couple of unexpected visitors turn up so time just disappeared!

Thanks for all your updates - I've done a vent hat and started another and I've given my Mum the pattern over the phone, too. As soon as I said that a request has gone out for vent hats and buntings she's revved her needles up! Knitting 'to order' gives her even more motivation! I shall do a bunting next when I've printed off the pattern.

Anyway, I shall go and find the last update and add everyone's new items to it!

    See you all later.

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

  • hi folks. I'm sorry I haven't been around, it seems like ages and ages but I have been so-o-o busy at work & at home. Had a couple of domestic issues to deal with but thankfully I think they're sorted now.
Anyway I hope everyone is well, I'll have to have a good read of the thread this week and see whats been happening while I've been in nowhere land!!
What I really want to tell you all, especially the original Wooligans, is that I have sent the blankets, cards and teddies to Smoky today by DHL so hopefully she will be getting them very soon.Again, I'm sorry it has taken so long but 'normal' life has been on the backburner for a few weeks now and I am just starting to peek above the parapet again, catching up on my friends here is now high on the list !!!
I am also determined to get back into my knitting and sewing again so hopefully I will be joining in the latest challenge, what is it by the way???
I've missed here so I am going to try my best not to get 'lost' again!!
    Luv n stuff,, Lainey XXXXXXXX:rolleyes:

Lainey - it's lovely to hear from you! I've been thinking about you. Thank you so much for everything you have done for the Wooligans; it must have taken up a lot of your time. Please don't apologise for 'taking too long'! It was a marathon of a job and it was so good of you to take it on especially with a home, family and job to run.I hope everything in your life is going well!

We are still doing squares to send to OECS, not for a particular blanket or project but because the need is always there. I have four to send them this week that my Mum has knitted.

We are generally doing the challenges that Loving Hands are doing. I'm not sure if you joined them but here is the link www.lovinghands.org.uk. The lady who runs it, Lou, it had a very serious accident recently which you will read about on the first page - luckily, she is slowly recovering - but other members and her daughter have kept things going. Loving Hands has a very active forum; most of us have joined and they take all sorts of knitted items from tiny preemie baby things to knitted teddies to scarves to school jumpers. On the forums there you will see that Preemies UK have put out a request for vent hats and burial buntings (very sad but very necessary). The patterns for these can be found on the 'patterns' page of Loving Hands. They are very simple and quick to make. There are other patterns there and also links to yet more patterns. Loving Hands will also supply wool and needles which is handy for those who don't have a stash of wool!

We are still knitting little hats for Sainsbury's Innocent Smoothie campaign which I believe has just been given the deadline of 17th November but I need to check on that. There is also a campaign for little scarves for Origins - just cast on four stitches and knit 40 rows! Any pattern, any colour! There are details of these on Loving Hands.

I try and update most days but leave it until the evening so that I can catch up with everyone's totals. I have a vent hat and a burial bunting to add which I made over the weekend but I will add those later on today.

I do hope you can join us in the latest challenges - the need is always there. There are a few updates on the very first post on this thread and I keep the running totals there (for any newbies) as well as here on the current page, and in my sig!

    Take care.
