I've managed to finish and sew up the blank squares i was knitting, its only a 6 square one but should be a nice size for perhaps one of the animal sanctuaries that loving hands give to. Im working on another babies blanket before i send my parcel off. I've made 7 teddy bags as well as i found some nice fabric suitable for those

Hi Maytaurus - what a lovely lot of links there! Thank you so much for posting them and the great pictures!

I meant to update before I went away on Friday but time just ran away with me so I shall do it now! I've been busy with a hen weekend so have not done any knitting but will treat myself to a lazy evening catching up tonight!

Mrs Moneypenny - it's great that you're making bags for the teddies! I don't have a sewing machine and it would take too long by hand but I wish I could do some, too. My Teds go off bagless, I'm afraid! I keep thinking about getting a sewing machine but don't think I would justify the expense. I might look for a second-hand one, though.

    Anyway, off to update.

    Latest Update:

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

Hi Kathy :) 8 Premmie hats complete and on my way to have finished my 9th, I've also finished another scarf off this weekend as well. I've been watching lots of TV this weekend because of the rain so the needles have been clicking away. I've also knitted a hat for my friends new baby boy (due September) so that doesn't count as a charity total, but it needed to get done and I've started a matching jumper to go with it, and I feel all pleased and productive lol!

I had some cheap wool arrive on Friday and the other batch is due today, so I now have enough wool to last me a while and I'll be able to knit lots more scarves and hats for adults and kids, and some baby blankets as well. I actually made a list of the things I wanted to knit and weave over the next few months, lots for charity but some for gifts as well, plus my little nephews and neice can get some knitted woolies for winter.

Wow, Herbaholic - I hope you stop long enough to eat and sleep! You've done really well, haven't you? I am also making things as Christmas and birthday presents this year. I usually make some but this year I am going to make as many as I can. I have a stash of wool, some of which I have had for years and I am actually starting to make a sizeable dent in it now. I was away for the weekend so I couldn't get any knitting done but I hope to make up for it this week.

I've made a note of your hat and scarf numbers and will update at the end of the day, in case anyone else has things to add!

Well done on being so productive!

kathy ive done 10 bags now as i sent the teddies off with a bag each, so their are 7 spare bags for bagless teds to use im sure others on loving hands are making bags but not teds so there will be bags for them all im sure.

I trained as an overlocker Bc (before children) and then went on to be a machinist at a ladies clothing factory so im not a bad machinist, i used to make lots of my own clothes and all the girls party dresses when they were little. I really should do more sewing, it was a bit embarrassing to see how much fabric i have stashed away - hence the bags, i might even be able to get some more done gefore the deadline.

I brought some nice brown wool on sunday 2 100grm balls for 50p at the carboot, so i've started another teddy. if he doesntr make it by the deadline he can go towards to autumn challenge totals

Mrs Moneypenny - I was taught sewing by my Mum and at school but never really took to it. My Mum and my sister are excellentm though. When we were teenagers, my sister and I used to work all through the summer holidays (we lived in Weston-super-Mare then when it was a thriving holiday resort so there was always hotel work); we used to save all our money up and Mum would take us to Bristol to choose sewing patterns and fabric which she would then spend the next few weeks turning into trendy dresses and skirts. I remember when Mary Quant stuff was in fashion and Mum used to copy all the designs for us. We thought we were so 'with it'!

Although I didn't really enjoy sewing I've always been grateful that I was taught because I've never forgotten it. At least I know how to alter things and do running repairs so it has come in useful! Lately, I have been thinking about buying a second-hand machine and I even bought the Reader's Digest Book of Sewing recently so I will have another go. I have more time and patience now that I am a grown-up! My Mum used to make wedding dresses and just about anything you can think of. She has a huge fabric stash which she can't resist adding to and has to be dragged kicking and screaming from fabric shops! Mind you, I'm like that about wool! It's just such a good feeling to be able to turn something like wool into, say, a teddy bear, isn't it? When I finished my last Teddy for Tragedy, even my DH said it was hard to believe that it was once just a couple of balls of wool and now it has a personality! He still has the football scarf and granny-square blanket that his beloved Nan made for him almost fifty years ago! The blanket needs some running repairs so it's one of the projects on my list. I asked if he'd mind if I repaired it and added a row of my own squares and he said he could think of nothing better. His Nan was kinder to him than his own parents - she was very special. Now that I've got all emotional, I'd better go!

Thanks for your post, Mrs Moneypenny; it's lovely to get a bit of background to you!
