:hello: :hello: :j :j With Mr Chalky away I thought I would put my time to good use and have knitted 2 of the premmie teapt hats. DD2 can't believe any baby has a head that small. They certainly look cute.

Had an idea. We spend our winters in Spain so I thought I might try and get a local group going as I am sure lots of people have spare time and it might be a way of making new friends.

    Hi Kathy

Just having a read, and could I make a suggestion, edit your first post (as they keep doing on the Boots Board), with the Status's and Links, then if someone new joins, they can find things without reading all the threads, also if we keep the full up to date tally on there, it will make the thread shorter as it will just be there once. (could be a lot less typing for you too!)

    Hi all!

PIPPA - sorry about that! Will correct the totals! With the crochet hat pattern, if it still goes wrong when you have another go, post the problem and I may be able to help! I did another one last night and it's the easiest pattern for a hat that I've found so far! I have even adapted it to do an Innocent Smoothie one (just by starting off with fewer stitches). Thinking about it, though, I do remember that they didn't say to 'ch 3' (to represent the first dc) at the beginning of all the rows after the 'increasing' rows, so that may be the problem you're getting!

CHALKY - Well done on your first hats and I quite agree - it is very addictive! Your idea of starting a group in Spain is brilliant. Depending on where DONNY-GAL's place is there, she could be your first member!

DONNY-GAL - thanks for the post! I have already edited the first post to show all the relevant details and the links, but I had not thought of putting the running totals there - it's a great idea. I will still have to point newbies in that direction because a lot of people join the thread when it is 'bumped'. I wonder if there is a way of editing the title so that it says 'READ THIS FIRST!)? Thanks for the suggestion!

lovely evening and will catch up with you all tomorrow!

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

Yes Kathy - if you chose advanced mode when editing a post you can alter the title I think.

Thanks, Donny - I'll have a go at doing that later but I can hear 'the sighing one' emerging from his sleep so that's the end of my uninterrupted surfing for a while! I'd better go and put the kettle on!

    Thanks

Hello :) I'd like to get involved, can't promise I'll be able to knit loads but I'll give it a go!

Anyway, I've got a question ... I was going to have a go at some smoothie hats, I've got hold of some 3 1/4 needles but they seem awfully thin ... Is this the right size to use or would something a bit thicker be better? Thanks for any advice, I don't want to start knitting and it end up tiny!

HI Beth - don't you dare apologise for not doing more hats! I'm amazed at what you achieve with your arms so painful - please don't over do it!

GINGERNUTMEG - love the name! Welcome to the group - please look at the very first post on this thread for all the relevant info and join us here, as well http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Wooligan/ As for the needles, yours are too small, really. Look for size 4mm (in old money that's size 8) which will be just right for the hats using double-knitting yarn. The needles you have are better for knitting thinner ply wool like 4-ply. Glad you could join us!

By the way, Pippa - it was Cadbury's Turkish Delight - delicious but not as good as Fry's which is getting hard to find these days!

I'm also, at Donny-Gal's excellent suggestion, going to update the running totals on the first thread for any newbies! Thanks, DG!
