Thanks, Bella, for two more hats. I shall update now - I've done one more but I am also knitting a duck for a duck-mad friend's surprise birthday in between hats!

Lainey - I hope the sewing up is going well, bless you. It must be a mammoth task and the photos so far show what a great job you're doing! I still haven't posted off my Mum's teddies for the Smokelets - they're all wrapped up ready so I will do them tomorrow!

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

  • hi tylersbabe and her mum, thank you so much for the extra squares, I'll make sure your names go into the card I'm going to put with the blankets.
Mrs m. hello to you too, I think I could do with just a couple more please, if it's not too much trouble. Beethebee said she will do a few extra but I don't want to put too much on her, thanks beth ;-)

Hi Lainey, I`m back at last, one way and another I have been non stop since I got back from holiday.

I did go into the wooligans site, and saw your post on there, I have some crochet squares done in lemon/white, blue/white, pink/white, dark pink/white and peach/white, they are all 7" sqs but as I said if you need them I can soon do an extra round or 2 to make them up to 8". Just let me know and I will make a start on them.

BTW the blankets look lovely :T

    :hello:
Hello mioliere, did you miss me ;)
Well I am back now and raring to go. I have been through some of the sites and printed off the top knot hat, the stretchy hat and Bevs crochet hats. I cant wait to get started. Got loads of wool from mom and scavenging in the dark recesses of my cupboards (didnt realise I had so much)

I also found some Tapestry hanks of wool, do you think they will be ok for knit or crochet 7" sqs for OECS ?

I dont usually post this late but I know you are an early bird so I thought I would give you something to read in the early hours

Hi Pippa - thanks for the post all ready for when I woke up and logged on! Yes, you were missed and are now being warmly welcomed back! You sound very enthusiastic and raring to go! The hats are going very well; Bev's 'Newborn Roundie Hat' takes just half an hour and doesn't take long to learn off by heart so I have been working on those in between knitting projects of my own for birthday presents. She has put simple instructions for a flower to attach to the hat which looks lovely so I'm doing that on all the pink hats that I do!I'm going to try the bootees and a cardigan as well. Her patterns are so simple and grow so fast, they're really satisfying to do.

As for the tapestry wool, I'm sure that, as long as the ply is more or less of Double Knitting thickness, they would be OK. The only thing to consider is whether they need to be washed as 'wool wash only' but, having thought of that, I am sure that the people who end up with the blankets would wash them that way anyway, wouldn't they? They would be far too precious to shove in on a normal wash! I must get round to posting some more photos on to the site - I'll try and do that over the weekend.

Lainey - hope things are going well. I think of you a lot doing all that sewing up; I think you're an absolute star!

    :hello:
Morning mioliere, I have had another look at the tapestry wool and some of it does seem a bit thicker than DK, so I will have a go at a smoothie hat with that just to see how it turns out, and use the normal DK for the sqs.

I wont use any pure wool for the baby hats tho, as like my Gdtr some babies may be allergic to wool. But even then its not all wool, strange that:confused:

Ironing to do first tho....I luv ironing I do.....Not:rotfl:

    bye for now
