my dad has been with swiftcover for just under a year and at first they were ok, no probs at all, but when he went to tax his car the post office wouldnt accept his insurance document, so he had to do his tax over the phone, dont know if it was post office fault or swiftcover but just thought i'd add this to the forum...

Apparently Swiftcover lets you print off your certificate yourself but does not actually send a 'hard copy'.

Online documents are great but it is a really poor show not to send an original document at the commencement of the policy.

Post Offices will generally only accept an original document - so if you're with Swiftcover and your printer is not a good one, you're stuffed!

Your "dad" would not have had much luck renewing his car tax at the Post Office for the couple of weeks; he might well be chewing his elbows wondering where his paper certificate has gone. (You get about a month before the automatic fine is charged).

I would think "dad" could renew the car TAX on the World Wide Web if he needs to save the cost of a phone call; much easier than my annual TAX return that I have to do, which I can now key in on-line.

If I remember correctly, when Swansea was set uo in the late 1970's the idea was to centralise everything BUT the dream collapsed under the weight of paper and postal delivery problems. The then government backed down and gave much of the job back to local post offices. Now that there is a master database linking car TAX, MOT and insurance policy it can be done without shipping tons of paper round the country.

Personally, I would hate to stand in a long Q in my main Post Office, especially as the local one, where I could park outside has been closed.
I would also save time, money and do my bit to reduces the tons of CO2 pollution I pump into the atmosphere each year if I paid my taxes via the net.

So you might not see the demise of the Post Office as progress, but it is inevitable and the present strike looks like a long drawn out suicide note.

    Harry.

PS I renewed my TV TAX on-line this year using a cash back credit card.

Dad is stuck in his ways and has always used the PO, if we knew this would happen i would have done it for him online myself... He rang them and said he would renew as long as they send him an original copy, and they agreed.. LETS WAIT AND SEE IF THIS HAPPENS!!!!
  • Yet another "Stay away from Swiftcover" post.

Yes the premium's cheap, that's what attracts all of us right? Come to claim and this is where the nightmare begins. I flooded my car on 21st July and claimed straight away to get the ball rolling. Today is 23rd October, over 3 months on, plenty of emails and phone calls and still no resolution.

I'll make a note to myself to let you all know when/if it is finally resolved but I don't see that happening this year.

    You have been warned!
  • Almost reached the 4 month mark and still no resolution... My car is a convertible that's parked out on the road with a hole in the cylinder block and heading straight into Winter depreciating day by day.
  • Well, just over 4 months after the incident happened I've finally been payed for the total loss. The only plus point is that I received a good payout from them and it was straight into my bank account, but that was only after I haggled for a while.
  • I would not recommend using Swiftcover. I had the misfortune of having an accident before Christmas and on the 30th January the repair has still not been authorised. I have rung every couple of days to chase my claim. Not one person has ever called me back with answers to my questions. I am being told that because I want to use a non-recommended repairer it could take 15-20 working days to authorise. Today is the 20th day since they had my quote it is still not authorised despite 4 calls to them today. I was assured that i would be called to day with the authoisation. I finally called Swiftcover to be told the guy i was waiting for had gone home.
Please beware they are cheap but good luck if you have an accident you will have long delays on hold, gettting cut-off whilst on hold, no responses and no Managers willing to talk to you.

Remember to add the cost of wasted calls onto your premium.

Unfortunately my daughter is also insured with Swiftcover and this week Jan 25th we received a letter saying they had not yet taken money out of her account for her insurance which began in October. There admin appears to be a mess.

I was seriously considering insuring our two cars with SwiftCover as they were the cheapest for the cover I wanted.

However I dug a bit further and on the forums on Money Supermarket there were loads of posts from people who have had problems with them when it came to claiming. There wasn't one positive post.

I have decided not to touch them with the proverbial bargepole.
